This place is amazing! My Fiancé and I had been wandering all over the Albaicín looking for the ideal place to eat, the prices and what was on offer were not blowing us away. We also found the whole area to be a real tourist trap with the restaurants around the plazas offering ‘tapas’ at inflated prices.
We quickly googled and saw the single ‘£’ and great reviews for Poë... it was tucked away in a much quieter area and we arrived at around 8.30 which turned to to be the perfect time, before it got super busy! Mathew was so welcoming and the concept is outstanding. Free Tapa dish with every drink ordered, then if you want extra tapa it is €1.50, you can also opt for a bigger dish at €5.
The tapas is not your traditional calamari or pil pil prawns, potatas bravas ect but more a fusion of arab influences (which makes sense given the areas history), brazilian dishes with peppers, pork and black beans, grilled skewers of tender pork and pinapple. There is a fish dish, veggie dishes and so on. All the meat is super tender and the flavours are amazing, when the food is free I am not sure how anyone could complain about anything!!
Top class place, buzzing vibe, great...
Read moreCame here after reading other reviews and was not disappointed.
We managed to try the majority of the tapas during our visit and they were flavoursome, some with a gentle spice which hit gradually, displaying some fantastic cookery. Would highly recommend the Pork stew & the Piri Piri wings!
Matthew at the bar was very friendly and helpful. Id read to get there as close to opening as possible, and boy are we glad we did. It fills up quickly, and there was a queue of locals patiently waiting to get in later in the evening, which I hadn't really witnessed anywhere else.
There are two minor downfalls however - the lack of card payments (we didn't notice till we'd arrived that it was cash only, so I had to take the 8min walk to the nearest cash point).
Secondly it gets VERY hot inside - I'm assuming due to the kitchen being just behind the bar, and genuinely the sheer amount of people visiting! There are no fans or air-conditioning present, so it does get a little bit sweaty!
Do not let these detract from the overall experiences however, the food, drinks and experience were absolutely fantastic; I will recommend to all whom visit Granada and long may...
Read moreLet's be clear on what this bar is and what it is not. We 4 in the family went to this bar to taste mostly tapas and not much the drinks. We somehow squeezed in (which you must do :-) ) and somehow got the attention of the only bartender that the bar had and got the drinks and the tapas ordered. The bartender is a one man show, so fast, so efficient and with a terrific memory. You may think he forgot you but he hasn't. He will get your order. The drinks were poured instantly. He did get our tapas, periodically assuring us that it is coming which was astounding. The tapas came after 45 minutes. So, the moral of the story is, if you are here to hang out and dont care too much when your food comes, then come here and have fun. The energy here is amazing and everything is cheap and delicious; it lives up to the hype. Just dont come here (like us) only with the intention of tasting the tapas because you will run out...
