This place has that rare kind of charm that makes you feel like you’re in on a local secret. Classic Andalusian tavern vibes, tiled walls, wood barrels, and a bar full of regulars chatting like it’s their living room.
We stopped in for a drink and ended up staying for a slow, joyful feast. Every single drink came with a complimentary tapa, warm, flavorful, made with care. Tiny stews, cheese on bread, grilled bread with jamón… nothing fancy, everything satisfying.
At La Gran Taberna, some of the house wines are poured straight from oak barrels behind the bar, offering a rare chance to taste local favorites with a hint of wood and tradition in every sip. Among these special drinks:
• Jerez Gold – semi-sweet golden sherry with nutty, oaky notes • Calicasas – fruity and rustic house red served from the cask • Pedro Ximénez – rich, syrupy dessert wine with raisin and caramel flavors • Bleeding – crisp, refreshing rosé • Torito – bold and earthy red with subtle oak tones • Palo Cortao – rare dry sherry, deep and complex • Vermouth of the House – herbaceous, lightly sweet, served on ice • Cup Málaga – silky sweet wine with floral notes • Cup Follaza – easy-drinking local table wine • Pitcher Sangria – classic mix of red wine, citrus, and fruit, perfect for sharing

As you walk down Questa De Gomerez, and you're emerging onto Plaza Nueva. This place is right on the corner. They have a fabulous wine menu and the tapas, are fantastic. Given it's position, you may expect it to be very pricey. Go in, have a beer, you're tapa may be a fabulous omelet on a piece of bread and some olives. Trust me, that omlete wile be a real treat and it will cost a couple of euros.
A great bar, with staff working their socks off to do a fabulous job of keeping their customers well served with food and drink.
We went back there three nights running, and again the following weekend. It's one of those place that will keep you coming back for more.

We loved the lomo toast with Roquefort as well as the bacon with 🫑
The server was a bit unfriendly but got the job done. Don’t expect a...
