If you like seafood and free tapas, this place is one of the places that you should definitely check out. This placed was packed during the day and evening hours. We had arrived around 2200 and it was busy, but started dying down around 2300. It was busy and I understand why the service was off a bit. The servers tried to help you as much as they could. Definitely and please get their attention if you are needing service. If you are in a rush, I would not recommend coming here. This place is a family place as they service other beverages other than beer and wine. I ordered beer and they had two choices of Alhambra beer, special and special sin. I had both and they are fair. It is always fun to try different beer from around the world. Neither of them popped out to me. For our free tapas, we got crawfish, mussels, and clams. They were all delicious. The clams were a little salty in my opinion, but still good. You can also order tapas from the menu. Most options give you a choice from half to full orders. The price was a bit pricey, but it is seafood and this restaurant is located in a touristy area. We ordered a half order of fried calamari and garlic mushrooms. The fried calamari was lightly battered and fresh! With a little bit of lemon it was to die for. The garlic mushrooms was good and the half order was a good amount of food to share with another person. The mushrooms were also a bit salty for my taste, but had food flavor. Overall, I think the experience was good. The ambiance was what you would think, loud. People were in and out there pretty quickly, so people did not have to wait around for too long. There are many other tapas places around too, but this seemed to be one of the ones to try our. Give it a whirl, I don't think you would be...
Read moreWe know this could be considered a very touristy option but it is still one of the most mentioned, recommended places based on my research. And I’m glad we tried it!! In fact, it is one of my family’s top meals from the trip, and they even went as far as suggesting to eating there again.
The seafood was fresh, fried dishes are well seasoned, and the breaded dishes were just perfectly coated. You’d think for a place with multiple branches and packed with customers, they’d compromise on the quality and taste, but not here. We honestly enjoyed each and every dish (except for the paella which was a free tapa hehe). The squid was so soft whether the grilled or fried version. The pimientos de padron were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The berenjenas are so good and addicting!! The fried seafood were just so simple but so delicious. We really enjoying eating here.
The only room for improvement was the service. We were a group of 7 so I understand it could be harder to get a table even on an off peak hour. But the waiter was quite dismissing telling us it’ll take an hour or so without actually checking if there are tables about to finish. But we decided to wait it out 5-10 mins and even asked if we could just wait in the counter tables outside to start drinking. But before we could even order our drinks, there was already a table available for us. Though I understand it does get pretty busy for them. So my recommendation would be just to be patient and the wait will be...
Read moreExcellent tapas bar, with a few limitations. Here is the inside info:
It is a very tiny "chain" of, I think, 3 tapas bars with the same menu. They are famous for fish, and all their dishes are fish, with a couple of exceptions. Vegetarians will find 2-3 choices there.
It is well known all around Granada and a common place to go when you are local. The result is that it is very hard to get a seat, in particular in a large group.
They do not take reservations. The only sure way to get a table is to arrive RIGHT at opening time or a bit before. In fact, they do open a bit before the official opening time most days.
Finally, the most important: most of these recipes are VERY simple. A third of them are just fried, breaded seafood, but very fresh and good. Another third is croquettes. The rest are miscellaneous SIMPLE recipes. Don't come hoping to find fabulous, original fish recipes: the place is famous because it has fresh fish, in large plates, well prepared in basic recipes, with quick service--not because of its creative seafood:-) They are an excellent fish tapas place that I recommend, but they are not particularly creative in their cuisine. So come right at opening time and enjoy simple but...
