I visited Restaurante Genil 'Gourmet' last week, on a short trip to Granada, and frankly it was one of the worst meals I've had on holiday in Europe, especially for the price.
We had two pizzas, a Spaghetti Bolognese, and Pasta Fruitti Di Mare, among us. I had the prosciutto pizza, which turned out to be one of the worst pizzas I've ever had - the thing was almost entirely cheese, and not very nice cheese at that, it reminded me of the cheap packets of grated mozzarella from the store. There was a thin smear of tomato sauce underneath, which was very tart, and barely tasted of tomatoes at all. The base was actually alright and I thought the crusts were the nicest part of the dish. I couldn't eat the "prosciutto" they out on it - which were small chunks of luncheon meat and the whole thing had been finished with what seemed like half a jar of dried oregano.
The €10 Spaghetti Bolognese was edible, and they managed to boil some dried spaghetti well enough, but the sauce itself was watery and needed a lot of seasoning, it didn't seem like it had been simmered at all and barely contained any beef. As someone who makes Ragu a lot this surprised me as it really isn't difficult to get right.
The Fruit Di Mare was probably the nicest dish, costing €15, but was still extremely overpriced for what it was - a plate of black spaghetti with small prawns and a few clams with olive oil.
The beers were nice and cold, but I'd recommend staying away from the Sangria, which tasted like pure Cointreau.
In the end we paid €70 for a meal that I could have made more competently for a third...
Read moreWe came hungry, the portions were really big, and we left hungry.
The chicken in the Cesar salad was hidden under a thick sauce (not Cesar salad sauce) so you couldn't see that the chicken was old and greasy. The green lettuce was brown in places. The corn in the Cesar salad was good.
We thought it would be hard to mess up spaghetti carbonara/napoli. We were wrong. It didn't taste like anything. After we asked for salt and pepper, at least it tasted like salt and pepper.
All the dishes came at the same time, including the tapas, where they tried to hide the burnt parts with lots of sauce. In our dishes, we found food that definitely did not belong to our dish, such as chips or an undefinable something.
On the plus side, the service was quick, and we had something to laugh and talk about. We also learned a lesson: next time we will read the reviews of a restaurant...
Read moreI can only evaluate the service as I haven’t even gotten to eat anything in this place. We arrived early before the lunch time and chose a table close to the window. The whole restaurant was empty, there was just one guest in there except of us. The waiter approached and rudely asked why we had chosen a bigger table for four and told us to take the other one (for two) in a dark corner. Than I tried to order paella but he just refused, said - no paella. He did not provide any reasons or excuses even when I asked why they didn’t serve paella and if maybe we had to wait for a longer time (which was fine for us actually). The worst service in Granada that I have experienced. Cannot recommend this place as I just wasted my time here and...
