I visited La Scala based on glowing recommendations from my brother and sister-in-law, as well as my parents. It seems the restaurant may have changed ownership recently, as it looked slightly different to the photos they showed me – but it’s still a beautiful spot with a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. They even have a very sweet dog, who we both instantly fell in love with!
The waiters were friendly and welcoming, though service was a little relaxed toward the end – we weren’t given a dessert menu (not sure if they serve desserts?) and had to ask for the bill and card machine after a short wait. Not a big issue, especially if you’re happy to go with the slower pace.
For starters, we shared the scallops which were absolutely delicious. For the main, we both ordered the octopus – my friend really enjoyed it, but I personally found it wasn’t quite to my taste, as it was more of a stew with potatoes. I tend to prefer grilled or barbecued octopus, so that’s on me for not asking more about the dish.
There was no bartender on the evening we visited, so the drinks menu was quite limited, but they still made us a lovely mojito each, which we really enjoyed.
La Scala is tucked away in a more peaceful, charming part of Ibiza Old Town, which I’d highly recommend exploring. If you do visit, I’d suggest asking the staff to explain the dishes in detail – that’s where I went...
Read moreOn a balmy Ibiza night, with the sun setting and guitar music catching on the warm sea breeze, one might believe they’ve stumbled upon paradise at a romantic restaurant covered in flowers. What could be more delightful?
Enter the Maitre De, radiating peculiar enthusiasm and instantly offering us two glasses of (cheap) cava. "For us?" we asked. "Of course," he replied, his forehead glistening and eyes bulging in manic excitement. My wife, opting for a salad as her main course since I wasn’t eating, seemed to commit an unspoken cardinal sin. The enormous waiter—part bouncer, part gladiator—made his displeasure palpably clear.
The pièce de résistance arrived with the bill: €30.00 for a modest spinach salad. Upon querying the Maitre De about the extortionate price, he instantaneously transformed from his jovial persona into the vilest little gremlin I have ever encountered in my 47 years of cultured and well-travelled existence. "You are DISGUSTING, GET OUT!!" he bellowed, flecks of saliva and spittle flying from his downturned mouth, sweat pouring from his pulsating temples.
Had we seen the other reviews of La Scala, we might have laughed off the entire spectacle sooner. If you fancy an expensive, mediocre salad served by a sycophantic gremlin,...
Read moreMy husband and I booked this restaurant as had taken a picture of it 10 years previous and said we must go back and try this beautiful place with the twinkling lights. 10 years later we did! We were not disappointed- the service was lovely and the host answered our questions she was so lovely and friendly. We loved the new ethos of the restaurant ‘back to earth’ and we feel it was exactly that. The music, the ambience and food was fantastic and we could tell all the food was cooked from the heart as per the introduction on the menu. The ingredients were fresh and seasonal. We loved it. We were not rushed in anyway (as some restaurants do) we felt so relaxed and happy when we left. We had the eggplant and mussels to start then the gnocchi and meatballs followed by pistachio cheesecake and tiramisu (all tasted fantastic) We met the manager who was so lovely and his passion shined through. Thank you to all who made this such a wonderful experience for us! We...
