For the positive note: the food was kinda ok-ish. flavors were good but most of the sauces and dressings were to dominant. Medium Rare ordered meat was served way beyond rosé... Also the scenery is really nice, this old inner square garden is nice and cosy to sit and relax.
Now some critical points, notice that we are talking here about a supposingly high end restaurant.
The waiter was very inexperienced for an older guy.
He wanted to serve the starter and main course at the same time because that would be quicker...?
Wanted to put the red wine in our white wine glasses. Because we felt this coming we put our glasses on the side of the table, that made him realize it was time to do the glass changing thing.
The red wine was poured in our glasses in a clumsy way with a towel around the neck of the bottle, so high that a lot of wine was soaking into the towel and wine was spilled on the table giving ugly red spots.
The bread that was served before was not home made and pre heated in a hot air oven. We had to pay 4 Euro for that.
The owner was rude and careless. Sitting on a table for guests with his stinking cigar. Also he was walking around in a shady way taking pictures of the guests while they were eating.
We order a duck carpacio, which was served with fish knives. We had to ask if this was supposed to be the way or if this was a misunderstanding because the dish above on the menu was a fish carpacio... Bit weird because we both ordered the same duck carpacio so kinda strange to mix that up twice. After we asked it was indeed a failure and luckily they could fix it before severing two wrong dishes.
Both waiters who were older were super insecure. Also a boy who was not in uniform was also severing the guests, we guess it was the son of the owner. He was more quick and professional making the other two waiters in uniform look even more stupid.
For a high end restaurant it was a surprise that the concept of a wine pairing was new to the waiters, so we thought it would be more safe to just order a good bottle by our own choice from the menu.
All together we had a kinda ok night, more to have a laugh about all the things that were off or wrong in this place instead of enjoy an upper...
Read moreOn our last evening in Las Palmas before returning home to Canada, we ate at your restaurant. For my main course, I had the cod fish with potatoes and grilled octopus in a beautiful broth. When I tasted the dish, I had an experience that I have never had before - I was filled with emotion. To me, everything about the dish was perfect - the flavour, textures, colours and temperature. But even more, the dish flooded me with memories of my grandmother and the fish dishes she cooked for me when I was a child. I struggled to find words to describe how the experience made me feel, but it touched me deeply.
Besides that very personal experience triggered by the food, the staff at the restaurant were marvellous. They took great pride in their service and readily revealed their passion for their food when we asked questions about the dishes. The location in an interior courtyard is very special too.
The meal was a beautiful ending to our visit to Las Palmas and I hope that I will be back there again sometime to enjoy another meal at the Casa Montesdeoca...
