This was a superb discovery for us. It is a family run Mexican restaurant serving delicious food. We fancied something different and tasty, this didn’t disappoint.
Upon entering, we ordered margaritas made with mezcal, they were excellent, the glasses were coated with salt and fine chilli flakes. They really helped to prepare the palate for what we were about to eat. My wife had the mango margarita and I would definitely have it the next time we go.
We went for the guacamole as a starter and, as my wife and kids aren’t massive enthusiasts of spicy food, it was made mild, but I was given a separate bowl of marinated chillis to add to my dip and tortillas. This was excellent, as it meant that no one had to compromise on their own chilli tolerance. Having easily devoured the entry level chillis, I was given two more bowls to have with the mains that increased the heat for my portions.
The kids had the children’s menu of burritos which were full of flavour, the best we’ve ever had. Whilst the adults went for the enchiladas and tacos. The flavours were deep and rich with cool guacamole and sour cream.
For dessert we had the tres leche and chocolate flan. Both were great, but the chocolate flan served with warm tortilla chips definitely had the edge.
The service was excellent. We were made to feel very welcome and there was a lovely atmosphere.
Don’t be put off by the fact that it is small and tucked away in a quiet street. It is well worth a visit. We will...
Read moreMost tasteless Mexican food I’ve ever had. Clearly everyone who gave a good review has never been to Mexico and ate real Mexican food. And pricy for quality we got which is small portions and food with no taste. We got mole &cochinita pibil which is supposed to be flavorful but it’s so watered down and tasteless, I don’t know how anyone can like it. If you had real mole and cochinita pibil you would know. You can make food tasty without making it spicy (I don’t even eat spicy food but I like flavorful food). I also found every single ethnic restaurant in Spain to be super tasteless, I guess to cater to the locals… but still, we come to a Mexican restaurant to have flavorful food after seeing the great reviews but only to find out it’s tasteless like all the ethnic & local...
Read moreBest Mexican food I have found in Las Palmas. I am from the southwest U.S. and lived/travelled along the MX/US border and Mexican food is one of my favorites. I like that La Picantina keeps the menu simple by not having a crazy big menu, so they can focus on doing what they do well. The food was as authentic as you can get being so far away. The staff is of Mexican decent and was able to explain why some items are not on the menu; namely they had trouble growing some ingredients locally. Great food, great conversation with the staff, great atmosphere. Just became one of my favorite places on the island to eat. Also nice selection of MX beers. Homemade sauces, full of flavor and a little bite (for some reason local peppers either grow or are grown...
