Restaurante El Topo: A Hidden Gem for Hungry Pilgrims

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When you're walking 20 km a day, anything sounds good, right? But El Topo doesn’t just serve “anything.” Oh no, this place delivers the culinary equivalent of a high-five after a long hike! We rolled in 10 minutes early, unshowered and with backpacks the size of small children, and instead of a polite “please wait outside,” they welcomed us like long-lost cousins at a family reunion.

The staff? Hilarious. It's like they moonlight as stand-up comedians when they aren’t slinging pizza dough. We were barely seated when they cracked jokes while prepping, and we knew we were in for a good time. Adrian made our dining experience one to remember.

The food? Well, after a few days on the Camino, I’d have happily eaten my own shoe. But no need, because the salads were so fresh I’m pretty sure they harvested them out back, and the pizza? Let’s just say if I had a portable oven, I’d have taken five slices to go. El Topo’s dishes are the culinary oasis we didn’t know we needed.

In short, if you’re anywhere near this place, don’t miss it. You’ll leave with a full stomach, a smile on your face, and possibly a new career in...

Good location but a tourist trap, stay clear.

We wanted a light lunch so ordered 1 vegetable and ricotta cannelloni to share. The waitress tried to insist we had 1 each, sharing not allowed.

When the food came, in less than 10 minutes it was the worse cannelloni I have ever had.

It came on a plate, not alforno, the pasta was 4 folded scraps of broken pasta, with onion in the centre, no other veg. The ricotta was nowhere to be seen or tasted.

The cheese sauce was only on half the cannelloni and had obviously been flashed under a grill. The tomato sauce was a very thin layer under the other half the cannelloni.

This was an example of lazy cooking, no taste to the dish and it cost 14.9 euros.

Avoid!

Had salmon ravioli with pesto sauce yesterday. It was good. Was probably too ambitious with tiramisu order, what was medium to the waitress was probably too much for solo diner. Bill for diner was 25€ including water. It’s been drizzling today, walked past the restaurant. Was craving for something soupy, it was in the menu but they offered to make me a sopa the fideo which fine noodle in chicken broth( and nothing else) and fine bread sticks. My bill for this soup is 10€ which is very over priced. Do ask for price before ordering something not in the menu.
