Our experience at Vino Mio in Malaga was extremely disappointing, and the behavior of the manager, Freddie, was unacceptable. We had booked a dinner for 27 people to celebrate a special 40th birthday, but the occasion was ruined due to the poor service and unprofessional attitude.
We pre-ordered a set menu at €45 per person, which explicitly included coffee and sparkling dessert wine. However, towards the end, Freddie refused to include these items, claiming they were contingent on adding a drinks package for an additional €6 or €9. This was never communicated to us during the booking process, and it was misleading to remove items that were part of the agreed-upon menu.
To make matters worse, unlike other establishments, Freddie refused to allow us to pay based on what individuals ordered. Instead, he insisted on dividing the total evenly among all guests, regardless of what anyone had consumed. This meant that some people had to pay more than they should have, which was both unfair and unnecessary.
When we raised our concerns, Freddie was rude and unpleasant, disregarding the fundamental rule of hospitality: “Make the customer happy.” He showed no appreciation for the significance of the occasion or the effort we made to bring together 27 guests from different locations for this celebration.
The management team at Vino Mio needs to seriously reconsider who they have representing their restaurant. Freddie’s unprofessional behavior and poor attitude are not serving the reputation of the establishment well.
This experience left a bitter taste for everyone involved, and we will be sharing our negative experience with others. A group of 27 people, all dissatisfied, will be leaving bad reviews because of Freddie’s actions and the misleading practices of the restaurant.
We had high expectations for this evening, but unfortunately, Vino Mio fell far short. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a hospitable and reliable...
Read moreWe ate here the last evening of our visit to beautiful Malaga. It was an absolutely amazing experience that ranks as one of our best restaurant experiences ever. All of the staff was incredibly and genuinely friendly and attentive, and made helpful suggestions whenever they could. The food was as excellent as the service. As a starter we had the Bolsitas Crujientes (a suggestion by one of the waitresses due to the time it would take for the main course to be done). After the first bite, I knew we were in for a great culinary experience. Next, we had the tagine with lamb as the main course. The meat was succulent and so tender it easily came off the bone, and the seasoning of the couscous was delicious. The portion was surprisingly filling as well. We washed everything away with a fine Rioja wine (another suggestion from the staff). When we were getting to finish, the Dutch lady who is the owner of the restaurant came over for a chat (a courtesy she shows to all of her guests) and gave us a really cool souvenir, the nature of which I will not further reveal so that you will go there and find out by yourself as the visit is absolutely well worth it! There is also a live flamenco show, but unfortunately we didn't have a reservation. We did see flashes as the dancer came out for a photoshoot. It is obvious the workers and owner of Vino Mío are fully committed to their job by putting all of their heart and passion into it. Such dedication is heartwarming and beautiful to witness. It creates magic moments and that's exactly what you'll experience when you...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about this place. I certainly would not come just for the food without the show we saw. We came here for the flamenco show. It was only 10 euros each in addition to dinner (most shows are 25+ euros each without dinner, so I thought it was a good value for the show plus dinner)
Food- However, I will say I was a little disappointed in food. While delicious it didn't taste as clean as I was expecting (Some additives definitely used.) The dinner menu as expected was also quite pricey for what they were serving, however that is expected when including the show.
Cost- In total we spent around 100 Euros for two people for dinner and show, with only one glass of wine.
Flamenco- We did enjoy show, though we have seen flamenco several times before and it was the least impressive flamenco performance I've seen (besides on cruise ships). Definitely feels touristy and a little campy, the dancing was on par, singing not quite there, but mostly just felt a little touristy all around.
Accommodating- They were accommodating of us in a corner with our double stroller, and the dancing was good, not exceptional, but good. I was a little annoyed by a server, whom I asked to speak Spanish with (one reason for trip was to practice Spanish.) And he responded that he wanted to practice his English in a semi confrontational way, definitely took me by surprise. However, the other servers were sweethearts, and we enjoyed our evening.
Conclusion- That being said it was a good night. Very...
