I was staying at the hotel right in front of the Bar.

I come often to Madrid and know very well their culture! Fisrt time ever in this hotel , I decided to walk into this little bar for a quick coffee and something for breakfast. The first thing that amused me is that the waiter was somking at the door creating a stinky smokey atmostphere. Nevermind let´s go for a coffee and a toast. When I go to pay 6 € OMG!! I have that every day just for 2 € in any other place!! Well I you are at NH parque de las avenidas, pick another place to have breakfast, that´s just insane or better quality price have breakfast at the hotel, you might pay more, but for sure you get better service and nobody will be...

We arrive during when the chef’s was done with the kitchen so the menu was limited. We tried the sandwich club which had chicken, tomato, lettuce and mayo adorned with potato crisps as well as the sandwich especial club which was beef strips. The food was ok since we couldn’t order any raciones. We also requested an order of chips but the chef was a bit reluctant on cooking it but proceeded none the less for a staggering price of €6...yikes! Qué arte tienen. Te hablan con tanto “buen rollo” que casi se te olvida que estás pagando un zumo a precio de champán. Majísimos, eso sí, mientras te entretienen con charla para que no te fijes en la cuenta. Lo tienen tan perfeccionado que parece hasta amable.

Vengo de fuera, sí, pero nací en el barrio. Aun así, como dije que vivo en otro país, automáticamente me metieron en la categoría “guiri despistado con tarjeta fácil”. Y claro, ahí el precio se ajusta a lo que ellos creen que ganas en el extranjero, no a lo que cuesta realmente un zumo, me exprimieron el zumo y la tarjeta.

El jefe incluso tuvo la sinceridad de decirme que en España escasea la empatía… y luego me cobró el doble con una sonrisa. Sublime.

Están junto al hotel del NHS, donde los clientes van y vienen, así que el sablazo constante les sale rentable. Saben perfectamente cómo aparentar cercanía mientras ajustan la cuenta como si estuvieras en la Gran Vía de Londres.

Ganaron 5€ más pero espero que este review le quite posibles clientes. Espera que te lo pongo en inglés por si acaso el cliente te busca en Google,

They’ve truly mastered the art of pretending to be friendly while overcharging you like you’re dining at an airport lounge. I’m originally from the neighborhood (yes, local!) but just mentioned I live abroad, and that was enough for them to switch on the “tourist pricing” mode.

The owner even had the nerve to say “empathy is rare in Spain”… right before charging me double for a mediocre juice. Brilliant performance.
