Visiting Nunuka was the biggest disappointment of our entire trip so far.
Georgians are known for their hospitality, but today we must have met a very different kind. The service was absolutely terrible, and that’s something I never expected from a Michelin-star Georgian place. When you go to a starred restaurant, there’s a certain level of professionalism and respect you expect. This had none of it.
As a starter, we ordered khinkali to share while we waited for our mains - something small just to start the meal. We waited 55 minutes. Yes, 55 minutes!!! Not once did anyone come to check in, ask if we wanted anything else, or let us know that the food was coming. The restaurant was half-empty, and khinkali is a fairly simple dish.
Then we waited another 20 minutes for the kebab, and the final dish took 30 more minutes. In all that time, no one asked if we wanted more water or wine. No bread was offered, even though we saw other tables being served bread.
The khinkali and kebab were okay, nothing special, and we know Georgian food well. The real letdown was the ojakhuri, which was nothing like the traditional dish. It was swimming in a puddle of sauce and tasted more like a bacon stew than the classic roasted pork and potatoes. Before ordering, I specifically asked if the meat was fatty, and I was assured it wasn’t. What arrived looked and tasted more like chunks of bacon.
But none of that compares to the unacceptable service. Even the best food wouldn’t have saved the experience. We were so let down that we didn’t even dare to order dessert, we weren’t ready to wait another hour.
Deeply disappointing. A Michelin star should mean more than fancy plates, it should reflect the full experience, and this one completely...
Read moreFood was excellent so if that’s all that matters, go for it. Service and timing of food was atrocious. We were the first group (2) for lunch and 15-30 min after us a couple larger more business seeming groups arrived. We had a reservation so it seems the restaurant thought they had capacity🤷♀️. We got one dish eventually. A half hour later we got a second dish. The larger groups got multiple courses before we got our second (while we arrived 15-30 min before). Perhaps they don’t value smaller groups, it seemed the twosome of Spanish women that came in were also somewhat dismissed. Also out of stock of the already small wine selection 🤪
The food is awesome but when your server can’t even bring water for 30 min or a box after two hours I have to imagine there are better spots. Later that week we went to La Nienta up the road for half the price and had such a nicer experience. Perhaps not haute cuisine but such better service it was shocking.
Excellent restaurants have to have excellent service every time and for every customer which this restaurant lacks. Maybe if I was a NYT critic… There are too many restaurants in Madrid for this mediocre service and inability to time your kitchen. It’s telling that there is junk scattered all over the tables until about 13:25, when they “start” lunch at 13:30. Get it together or you won’t make it:/ Sadly would not return though the food was tasty. There are other places with...
Read moreI have never had a worse service experience than we had here. This was awful, even for Spain. I try to give industry workers benefit of the doubt, as I have been a bus boy, cook, waiter, host, bartender, however this was beyond the pale. I actively felt like they didn’t want us there. We had another table next to us that got served that were English speakers, perhaps because one of us was Asian. 30 minutes before we were given water, trying to get their attention was more or less ignored. After we ordered two dishes came out then 30 Minutes for the third dish after we asked about it.
Food wise- their claim to fame is fancy cheesy bread - it is good - similar to opa Greek style. The eggplant appetizer wasn’t really eggplant it was a chunky hummus with a this shaving of eggplant, very disappointing - the best item was their pork dish that arrived late. Tender pork with seared edges, a lightly curried broth, tender baby potatoes, tomatoes that were soaked in vinegar to cut through the richness and pickled radish that was sweet, the radish needed more vinegar and less sugar. Overall this was their most successful dish in an extremely disappointing experience. Sadly we experienced Georgian hospitality and won’t...
