Santa Rita Madrid — Restaurant in Madrid

My second visit to Santa Rita was disappointing. We had the Menu del Día - my companion was offered a choice of white wine - Rueda or Albariño. She asked for Albariño and then was charged 3.50 for it - it didn't come into the menu; only Rueda does. We should have been told this. We had asked for some tap water - we were told after it was specially filtered water and that counted as her drink included in the menu. I have never had this type of conversation over a menu del día. We were then made to feel like we were being cheap and petty, and the overly familiar Rumanian waiter (who had ventured to guess where we were all from and come up with a bunch of racial stereotypes) came over to scold us, which was quite unpleasant. It was all a bit embarrassing as I had brought these friends to what I had promised was a lovely place. The food was only ok - a poached egg with raw white, four asparagus spears, and a tiny piece of lukewarm fish with a few watery potatoes and a bland sauce for 13.90. Sorry Santa Rita, we...

I’m so happy a friend recommended this place! I went on a Wednesday night and it was perfect. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant, relaxed but fine. Food wise, I completely loved everything we ordered: tuna tartar tostadas and croquetas de rabo de toro as starters (loved both of them) and we had the black rice with sepia to share as a main dish (very good portion for both of us) and for dessert we had the cheesecake with cherries. Our visit to Santa Rita in Madrid was by pure chance. We were walking through the area when the restaurant’s decor caught our eye. Reserving a table made our last day in Madrid a resounding success. We opted to share 2 plates from that night’s special, the red pepper starter and cod, and the octopus from the menu. The food was absolutely delicious and priced fairly. The servers were all friendly and helpful, and they took care of us throughout the entire evening. This is one of those places with good food, good service, and good ambience.
