Alma is my favourite bakery in Madrid. They shine for their handmade dough and pastries. They just don’t need any complement because eating one of their wonderful dough treats alone already feels like heaven.
Here’s my review on their carrot cake!
This is nothing like you’ve eaten before. A carrot cake with strawberries? I had to try it.
The cake - 4/5
it has sliced apple bits? and nuts. I am not sure but the flavours are nothing close to what I can find usually in a carrot cake yet I LOVE it. The dough is moist and not very cinnamony.
the frosting - 5/5 it is creamy, light and citrusy to me. the strawberries: they definitely add something that goes well with the flavour of the cake. It also adds refeshment to every bite, opposite to what you usually experience when you have other carrot cakes. It is not super sweet, which my stomach appreciates because I usually have a stomachache after eating carrot cake frosting: not with this one!
Portion - 5/5 generous and filling
CONCLUSION The star in this cake is the frosting! It blends everything together allowing you to enjoy the strawberries and acting as a great complementary element to the cake.

So we went the next day and my kids try few sweet treats. Everything was really tasty and original.
Many of my friends who live around the area mentioned that they never go there as the service is borderline rude. We went in and out quickly as it was busy and the queue was long. You need to go and see what you think about the service as I don’t think we stay enough to criticise it.
Coffee was also ok.
I heard the bread...
Read moreAlma is without doubt the best bakery I have ever visited! From a delicious croissant to various inspired pastries and some wonderful breads, they have everything your heart desires. Insider tip: grab a focaccia, the special ones (which they change regularly) are HEAVEN!!
While a bit on the expensive side, every penny is worth it as they source only the highest quality ingredients, make and bake everything locally, and regularly cycle through different items to their menu. And on top of everything the coffee is outstanding.
The staff are some of the friendliest I have ever met, always friendly and with a huge smile, happy to chat a bit and tell you everything about their latest creations. Every time I leave Alma I can't stop smiling.
If you ever have the chance to visit Alma, do it! You will not...
