Taberna Gaztelupe — Restaurant in Madrid

I was visiting Madrid for a few days and wandered into this place y first night, mostly out of necessity, since it was one of the few places open when I was ready for dinner. The first time there, I ordered a beef tartar for my main with a chocolate cake for dessert. The tartar was great and very different from what I'm used to. The dessert was alright. After trying other places in the area and finding a lot of places closed on Monday, I came back for a second meal. The second meal was the Octopus and Blue Fin Tuna on a bed of creamy rice and a creamy rice pudding. This meal was phenomenal. The tuna melted in your mouth. The octopus was firm but succulent, and the rice had a bit of a bite but was creamy and delicious. Moreover, it was seasoned, unlike other places. The rice pudding was unexpected as there was no rice. It was ground to a liquid essentially, but the flavors reminded me of rice pudding from my childhood. Naturally, it was fantastic! Best food I’ve ever had yet in my 3 days in Spain(maybe it’s because that I don’t speak Spanish so it’s hard for me to find good local restaurants). I happened to run into this one because the one I wanted to go on Michelin guide was closed. I’m so glad I walked in! The moment I tasted the wine I knew it would be great! Pues es una pena porque he ido durante años con amigos y familia, hemos celebrado cumpleaños, y no pienso volver por las faltas de educación de algunos camareros. Decidí dejar de ir tras un cumpleaños en el que nos trataron fatal, el camarero llegó a discutir con una de las comensales y a decirme a mí que me sentara de una vez cuando estaba felicitando y dando un beso a la cumpleañera. Hay quien por llevar muchos años en el negocio de la hostelería se cree que puede hacer lo que quiera y que el cliente es tonto. Aun así hoy al mediodía hemos ido a tomar una cerveza para probar, y la camarera nos ha puesto de tapa un poco de paella. Estaba fría y con toda educación le hemos dicho que si nos la podía calentar, y nos ha dicho que “claro que está fría, que hay que venir antes porque la paella se enfría desde que la hacen” sin la menor intención de calentarla. A pesar de que no habíamos pedido nosotros la paella, para no ser maleducados -a diferencia de ella-, le hemos dicho simplemente que por favor la cambiase por una ensaladilla o algo, a lo que ha comentado por lo bajini “pues también va a estar helada”, a lo que harto ya le he contestado que naturalmente, que la ensaladilla ES fría a diferencia del arroz. Es una pena porque es un buen sitio y lo he disfrutado muchas veces, pero la calidad de la comida no compensa la mala educación de algunos miembros del personal, encima teniendo en cuenta que no es un sitio barato y hay miles de sitios alrededor donde te atienden encantados y simplemente con educación y profesionalidad.
