La Puntilla is such a fabulous place to enjoy the best of Andalucía food in a lovely atmosphere.
The bar is busy and almost always full, both with locals and with visitors, but the quality of the tapas available is just amazing, so it is worth going again and again. The staff are very friendly, and after our first visit remembered our drinks without us having to ask again.
We visited three times for tapas and once to the restaurant. The tapas we had included: Morcilla, that lovely juicy black pudding; Gambas Pil Pil, prawns with a sharp garlic and chilli sauce; Chorizo, the peppery sausage for which Spanish cuisine is so famed; Sardina con cuscús, yes a sardine with couscous, and the couscous complimented the fish well; Ensalada de mariscos, a tasty seafood and vegetable salad; Almejas, big fat juicy ones clams and Mejillones, the plump mussels of this region. Which was my favourite – I really can’t say. I just can’t wait until my next visit to Nerja to try them all again.
On Friday evening during our stay we decided to go for a full blown meal at the restaurant which is just across the passage from the bar. We had Ensalada Mixta Pequeña (a huge, though called small, mixed salad), Pimientos del Padrón (the wonderful peppers from the City of Padrón), Patatas Bravos (potatoes in a spicy sauce), Langostinos Pil Pil (King Prawns in the local sauce) and Jurelillos Frito (Fried Fish, similar in texture to Mackerel – the pimientos were wonderful and the patatas bravos were the most chilli rich that I have tasted. The Jurelillos were somewhat bony, but a very tasty oily fish. All in all a fabulous meal...
Read moreAfter seeing this restaurant a year ago, we decided to try it as it looked popular. We were seated, ordered our drinks and then the waiter banged them on the table no smile, he was angry! This banging went on throughout the evening. It was obvious, their had been a fallout between staff, it was unpleasant. We ordered calamari, Prawns, chicken skewers etc. After tasting the food it was so over salted, our throats were burning. You could see the salt everywhere. It wasn't edible. We called the head waiter/owner? over we explained the problem he first told us to drink more, we couldn't believe this, he walked away, we called him back. He tried the calamari then put it in the outside bin( no comment was made), he came back tried the Prawns telling us its the outer shell, he proceeded to peel and said its not salty inside ( we!! know how seafood should taste and we know how to peel prawns), he then ate the chicken said it was nice! It was a joke and we were played! No apology, no reduction. We couldn't wait to leave! Infact when we paid there wasn't any staff around, they had all gone into the kitchen for another discussion. If this was a bad nite for them we paid for it in everyway. Throughout the evening, one of my sister's was sick, and the other including myself had heart burn all nite. Save yourself the trouble of time& money there are plenty of restaurants within the town, that are...
Read moreThis place had been recommended to us by a friend who spends much time in Spain. I'm glad he did as we may well have missed this gem as it is quite tucked away and slightly off the beaten track. Located on a quiet and pretty side street, the establishment straddles both sides of the road. One side is a tapas bar, the other a more traditional style restaurant. There is a display of fresh fish and seafood displayed outside the tapas bar, and it looked fantastic. It was also very busy so instead we took a seat across in the restaurant. The waiters were really friendly, and despite there being a party of at least 30 people dining at a huge long table, we we served quickly with excellent food. They were out of mussels, so I had Gambas Pil Pil, always a favourite of mine, and my mother had fried bacalao. We opted for the smaller portion sizes, and they were more than ample. The larger size would have been enough to share. The food was served with fresh warm bread and aioli which was the perfect accompaniment. After our meal we were offered a choice of liquers to finish. I had lemoncello my mother, Baileys. The atmosphere, here was brilliant, lots of chatter and laughter. It was obviously a place people enjoy visiting. We...
