Playa de la Calahonda is probably one of the most famous beaches in Nerja. That’s because it is located right next to the Balcón de Europa and when looking down on this spectacular 120 meter beach with rocky cliffs on both sides, all you can think about is the absolute beauty of this beach! It is located right in the center of town so if you don’t have a car you can easily get to this beach. You can access Calahonda Beach by using the steps next to the Boquete de Calahonda as it’s surrounded by boulders and rocky cliffs so this is the only access point. It has beautiful blue waters and this beach even has old fisherman’s cottages built into the rocks. Generally, Beach Calahonda also has small fishing boats along this beach when not in use and that also makes this beach very picturesque. From viewing this beach above on Balcón de Europa or seeing the beach by walking along the sandy shore, this is a wonderful beach to visit and is also safe since it is covered...
Read moreDuring the Easter season, our family visited Playa de la Calahonda near Nerja. The beach was as beautiful and lively as ever, with the refreshing spring air and the sight of many people enjoying the sea. Since the water was still cold (with an average April sea temperature of about 16°C), our family only dipped our feet in, but we saw plenty of locals and travelers bravely swimming and having fun. Although there were no lifeguards on duty, the overall atmosphere felt safe and peaceful. Even though we didn’t get to see the Semana Santa (Holy Week) processions near the beach during Easter, we could still feel the festive mood throughout the town. The beach itself was well maintained, and strolling along the scenic walkway with its stunning sea views was a real pleasure. Playa de la Calahonda is a place I would recommend to families. While the water can be chilly in spring, the clear sea, lively local atmosphere, and clean surroundings made for a truly memorable experience. We were so satisfied that we’d love to visit again in the summer!
Read moreI visited April 2025 so the beach during the week was very quiet and peaceful. I purchased a sun parasol from a local shop €13 and sat for hours peacefully reading a book listening to the waves crashing the shore. Toilets / showers were available and I found the beach to be clean. The sea water is clear but cold and I braved a swim. Access to beach is steep and no cafe/bar facilities so take drinking...
