Da Vinci's Italian & Mexican International Restaurant — Restaurant in Orihuela

On holiday with my girlfriend and friends when visiting Di Vincis. From the outside of the shop and after looking at the menu it looked to be very promising but turned out to be the complete opposite! When sat down, the menu looked very appetising and food was ordered. I had the mozeralla sticks which were good, my girlfriend had chicken wings which she ate, only as she was very hungry. After tasting one, I could not finish it as it left a funny taste in my mouth. My two friends then had calamari which he said was average and his partner had the JD chicken which were average as it seemed to be frozen calamari and frozen chicken strips. After eating our starter, we looked forward to the main meal, in the hope that it would get better. It didn’t. Myself and my girlfriend ordered the surf and turf which was sirloin steak, shrimp, chips and veg. Upon arrival, the chips were very bland and oven baked. They had no flavour. The veg was frozen veg from a packet and the steak didn’t even taste like steak even though it looked very appetising. The only good thing about this meal were the three prawns in batter. I absolutely love my food and I am far from a fussy eater but this was terrible. Myself and my girlfriend ate less than half of the food on the plate, with both of us leaving the steak. Our friends meals were a frozen pepperoni pizza and a seafood pasta dish which was very bland according to her. What looked to be a frozen pizza from an Italian ‘restaurant’ is very frustrating and lazy. This meal left us very annoyed and frustrated leaving the restaurant as we had paid over €100 for something that was not worth €10. There was no effort put into the meals that were ordered and really did disappoint. We do not have high standards at all but we expected a bit of effort being put into cooking the food and trying to make it enjoyable for customers. I have been visiting this restaurant for many years, in fact since it opened. I am so sorry to say it has been steadily going downhill. Last night we ordered Nachos with cheese and chicken Tacos to start. The Nachos were minimal and covered in out of the squeeze bottle sauce no real cheese in sight !! The taco was filled with 2 tiny pieces of chicken. I am sorry to say that after the starter we paid our bill and left. We have been frequent visitors to DaVincis but now there are so many restaurants in the area that offer better food and better service. We have returned over the years out of loyalty but now enough is enough we will not go back in a hurry. Over the last month we have visited on a number of occasions, we have had chicken wings which were virtually inedible,dry and over cooked. We also ordered chicken breast in garlic sauce which was very dry and the amount of sauce provided was minimal and not very nice. Went there with 8 of my friends. They had a wide range menu with food for everyone. The first time I was there I ordered a hamburger and since its an Italian restaurant my expectations wasn't very high, but boy was I wrong. I was served a wonderful homemade hamburger with good meat and fresh crispy salad. My friends who are more passionate about Italian food than I am all orderded different pastas and thought it was the best pasta they've had in a long time! The food was not the only thing wonderful about this restaurant, the personal was very friendly and always went by our table making sure that everything was to our satisfaction. We ended up coming back to this restaurant many times during our one week stay and we were never dissapointed with our food even though our expectations kept rising.

I write this in not only in gratitude but in the hopes that this hidden gem of la zenia will get more recognition. It might not seem like much from the outside, but we all know it's the inside...
