My family has been coming to La Zenia for over 15 years +. Gogartys has been our place for evening/late night drinks and entertainment.
We would be a big karaoke family and always engage with this type of entertainment.
As a family of 9, 8 adults and 1 teen. We attended the karaoke provided by James Golden. We made 2 visits this week.
The first visit this week for karaoke didn't go down well. To put things nicely, James had a very abrupt manner towards me and my family. He then also mentioned in a sly comment that "we came from another bar, and who are we to join in on the fun now?"" After spending roughly 2 hours here and multiple drinks order, we managed to get one solo karaoke song in. After discussing with my family the next day, we all agreed with the above.
Onto to the second visit. We arrived early in the night at about 9.30 pm apx. James was on karaoke again, and we decided to engage and put our names on the list straight away. James did advise that the list was long, and there would be a wait, but that was ok with us as we planned to stay the night. The time was 11pm, and we still had not been called. My wife asked if you could give us an indication of when we might be called, and James again was very rude and couldn't give me an answer or didn't want to give us an answer.
11.45pm still no call. My wife approached James again, explained very nicely that we had a young teen with us who was exhusted and wanted to go home, but after staying for so long we didn't want to just leave if we were potentially up in the next few mins or next few songs. James replied with "the list is long, your name is on it and that I'm not telling you who is next, and that I (my wife) just added another 2 mins to the list for bothering him so much. His manner, tone, and body gestures/hand waving were totally arrogant. After this we finished our drinks and left.
Sadly to say after 15 years and more coming here, we will definitely not be returning due to the experiences we encountered with James this week.
Gogartys lost some good...
Read moreWe went to Gogartys today for lunch (original plan was Paddy’s point but it was full!) We hadn’t been to either pub before.
The waitress, who appeared to be on her own and working hard, advised us it would be an hour wait for food. We decided to wait as everywhere else looked really busy. We ordered two simple fry ups(one Irish and one €4.99 special, drink included)) and a quesadilla with fries. We weren’t doing anything else and we were sitting enjoying the sun. An hour and quarter later our food arrived. We all tucked in as we were pretty hungry by then. The quality of the fry up ingredients was cheap, cold and tasteless. The quesadilla was a cold tortilla smothered/drenched in a weird melted cheese with some pepper and onion. No flavour, spice or anything tasting remotely Mexican or Spanish! Also a rather unattractive smear of tasteless shop bought guacamole. Also we were charged for the ‘free’ drink with the breakfast. The waitress (Vicki) was doing her best but the people who own that bar are letting their staff down and their customers. If you can’t provide better food than that, then don’t do it.
My advice if you’re reading this review is, reserve your table at Paddy’s point!! Whatever you do, don’t bother eating at Gogartys. The ‘chef’ clearly does not have a clue. Clearly these issues never get sorted as the reviews we read when we came home are months old.
It’s a drinking bar only and they should stick to what they know which is booze...
Read moreWhere do I star. Well we will start off with a positive, the english bar woman was amazing, felt sorry for the bar girl as she was the only one actually working, the place would have fell asunder only for her. We then told the staff member that we would pay at the bar as it was difficult for him having to split the bill (thought we where doing him a favour) my aunt later asked for a drink and the very rude English lad abruptly said in a very smart tone, oh I thought you said you where going to the bar, she is hard of hearing so he then proceeded to say it over and over my aunt spoke to try tell my other aunt what he said and he then proceeded to point his finger and say one at a time, thats when I stood and told him to remove himself from the table. Honestly I wasn't going to write this review but after speaking about our experience we are now aware that we wernt the only punters receiving this smart...
