Bar Sa Gavina — Restaurant in Palma

After walking through the busy but charming old town of Palma we were quite a bit hungry. Looked for some easy, authentic spanish food.

And found this place. Had a big menu with interesting items and fair prices. Looked like it's aimed at locals (most of the customers were spanish), which is a good sign.

Took a table across the street on the placa outside. The very friendly waiter was with us in a short while.

Actually planned on having a bottle of Cava, but they only had small ones (20cl), so we took two each of that one instead. Taste-wise still good cava and well priced.

We were thrilled to see fried baby squid on the menu. These are not easy to find. Ordered a plate of these, fried sardines and gamba a la plancha (grilled shrimp).

The sardines were nice and fresh. A good choice. Even better were the shrimp. So fresh, so sweet, so tasty. Shrimp are easy to find - good shrimp like these here not! A great dish. And then the highlight: the fried baby squid. Hot, crispy outside, tender inside. One of our favourite seafood and an item that you shouldn't miss.

All in all a fantastic lunch. Wonderful fresh fish and seafood, nice location, friendly staff and good prices. And all of this in the middle of Palma! Who knew. We will be back here in October...definitely. Highly...

One of the oldest and best established bars in the Mercado del Olivar area, very popular with locals for a coffee or beer, increasingly populated by tourists. They invariably give you a complimentary snack (olives or peanuts) with your drink, which is now very rare in Palma. But it's a traditional bar, and their prices and service reflects that: good honest prices and decent fare. Try their tapas, especially their delicious croquettes. And if you do only have a quick caña with olives, then a tip is much appreciated. (I am amazed by some of the very negative comments by, largely, some seemingly self entitled Spanish visitors who seem to demand something for nothing......

I ordered a nice chicken plate with Pommes and it was only 12 euros i thought it would be a small plate but i was wrong, for 12 euros i got a very big plate with two nice chicken and french fries and salad It was simply great

In the sunny day it is just a pleasure to sit outside and watch the plaza and enjoy the city centre Just make sure u sit outside not inside
