Loved this place. Absolutely delicious food and top service. We visited twice during our 4 night stay in Ronda. We shared a number of dishes on both visits. The Cantabrian anchovies with butter and peppers served from the tin with crunchy crackers were excellent. Rich butter and the best quality anchovies. We repeated these on the second visit. The foie gras and Goats cheese mille feuille is caramelised at the table super crispy top and tasty. The octopus leg is immense. The cloche is removed at the table with the smoke bellowing out.. which gives this dish a fantastic smokey flavour. There's Chipotle chilli, and the octopus is perfectly cooked.. soft with a little resistance on cutting and excellently charred. We repeated this dish on the 2nd visit. Next up, Cow Tataki. Seared/caramelised on the outside and perfect rareness in the middle. Excellent flavour and melted in your mouth. Another repeated dish second time round. Dessert had to be done. The baked cheesecake was very nice.. sadly, they were out of the nougat ice cream and chocolate cookie. We had the Tuna carpaccio with wasabi on the 2nd visit. Delicious. Good choice of wines. The Bad Man Chardonnay was very drinkable, and they make a great Aperol spritz. There is plenty of choice on the menu and a list of changing specials. Excellent dishes to share. Jonquil was very welcoming and looked after us very well, and Kiko the chef is absolutely brilliant. We were extremely grateful for the chestnut creme brulee and Piamater Moscatel. A perfect end to our time with you. 🙂 We thank you both for 2 excellent dinners whilst in Ronda and wish you every success...
Read moreI recently had a highly disappointing experience at La Barrafina, and I feel compelled to share my grievances.
Ambiance and Facilities: The first issue arose when I visited the restroom. The light sensors were positioned incorrectly, causing the lights to turn off abruptly while I was still inside. This left me in complete darkness, which was not only inconvenient but also quite distressing. Properly functioning facilities are a basic expectation, and this oversight significantly marred my experience.
Service: The service was excruciatingly slow. My brother and I had to wait for about 45 minutes for our food. To make matters worse, after we finished our meal, we had to wait an additional hour before my dad received his order. Such delays are unacceptable and indicate a severe lack of coordination in the kitchen and among the serving staff.
Food Quality: When the food finally arrived, it was another letdown. The duck, in particular, was excessively salty, making it almost inedible. Over-salting can ruin even the best-prepared dishes, and this was no exception. The other dishes we ordered also suffered from the same issue, with the overall meal being overwhelmingly salty.
Overall Experience: Given these significant issues, I cannot recommend La Barrafina. The combination of poorly maintained facilities, excessively slow service, and poorly prepared food led to an overall negative dining experience. I hope the management addresses these concerns promptly to avoid disappointing more customers...
Read moreWe visited on a Tuesday evening and had a very disappointing experience. Firstly we were seated upstairs - this area was full but had absolutely no atmosphere, next to the toilets and bad lighting. Outside and downstairs seating looked to be a bit nicer. There seemed to be one waiter for the whole place when we visited - he was extremely rushed and was not friendly at all. We ordered 3 dishes, and although all were cooked well and tasted ok, they took 2 hours to be served and with very large gaps in between. It was clear the waiter did not know the table numbers because every single time he came upstairs with a dish he resorted to just calling out the name of the dish and one of the tables had to claim it! Many tables, including us, had the wrong dish placed on their table at least once and had to then find the waiter and the dish then moved to another table. Lastly the white wine they served by the glass was quite an acquired taste and after the first glass we asked for a different type of wine next and was told very abruptly that was the only option. Which, for a restaurant with relatively high prices and an extensive wine list on the menu, seemed completely ridiculous. Overall, the food was good but the service and atmosphere made it a very uncomfortable and unenjoyable experience. NOTE regarding owner reply: I double checked and it was a Tuesday we attended the restaurant, apologies for my mistake. We even booked online so I have confirmation it was...
