The building is one of the most interesting I have ever been in. From the ceilings to the hinges in the doors to the ceramic inlay tiles to the water features. Stunning. The museum of ancient history is below average and if anything is a complete distraction to what should be Ronda's crowning glory (yes including the bridge, and I'm a civil engineer). There is virtually no info on the building beyond the who lived here when and because such and such was defeated, but architectural styles and the building methods are hugely intriguing along with what is old/new/restored. But the lack of info for the historical context of the buildings/places of interest in Ronda is a continuing theme. If there was no pre-historic exhibition (which could really be in any other building) then this would be five stars even without any useful...
Read moreA really interesting museum in which you can learn about the ancient history of Ronda, Malaga and the Iberian peninsula. There are a couple of interesting reconstructions of the old age, and there are some old items recovered from the areas around Ronda.
However, the most interesting part of the museum is the written information about the civilizations that developed in the Iberian peninsula from the old age up to the start of the medieval ages. The way the information is structured and the examples provided are clear, instructive and very useful. This museum can clarify ancient techniques that are difficult to understand in other museums due to the lack of context. In my experience, it's been...
Read moreThe museum is not about the history of this particular Palace, yet we enjoyed it greatly. The exhibition covers the pre history time-line, with detailed explanations over the ways of living, tool making, discoveries and progress of civilization throughout pre-historic "spain". It also shows how the battles and expansion of kingdoms took place in the Mediterranean area over the last millennia. The whole exhibition is translated to English, making it easy for foreigners. The Palace itself and garden are gorgeous. We find it totally worthy the 4 euro ticket (Nov/22) for the visit, even though we just spent one afternoon in Ronda, it really provided the dose of culture and history we like to get...
