Our 2019 Spain travel was filled with adventure, great food & wine and history.

Salamanca was the last city we visited during our Spain journey.

We stayed at The Alameda Palace where the concierge recommended this restaurant and others in the center or Plaza Mayor.

We had lunch -dinner is usually after 8 PM in Spain, a bit too late for us- and we were enchanted with the restaurant, the staff and the owner who became our friend.

So we ate one day and returned the next day only to find the staff quite busy, not allowing patrons through the front door. We realized the President of Ecuador had selected the restaurant for his lunch and that of his family and secret service.

Imagine the honor, we had lunch with the President of Ecuador.

The food is served with great attention to detail, selecting the most amazing cuts of meat, called salomillo, and unique salads.

We enjoyed this restaurant and hope to return one day.

It became the golden broach to close our culinary journey through Spain!!!

We made a reservation for our family group, and the experience was pretty disappointing. The owner/manager that took our order was pretty rude and condescending while trying to impose on us some orders we do not want. The food, although looked OK was pretty "flat" with some common base sauce that made most dishes taste the same. The specialities around oxtail are simply disappointing. The only dish worth trying was the stewed "toro" tomatoes with cheese sauce. Service was overall bad, with an awful maitre taking the order and the exception of our nice waiter (a tall gentleman with white hair) that was clearly overworked but tried its best and was always courteous and attentive. A very disappointing experience after a long weekend of excellent food experiences in Salamanca. The restaurant itself was nice, but our table was located in corner with uncomfortable access to half of it (The table needs to be moved and the rest of the people stand up in order to...

Nunca nos habían tratado con ese despotismo y tan mal . No me refiero a los trabajadores uniformados sino a un señor con un Polito y pantalón azul y unas zapatillas de deporte un poco sucias. Nos pregunta un trabajador si dentro o fuera ( el pasado viernes a las 15h) , había varias mesas libres . Elegimos fuera y pedimos la bebida , cuando viene el señor de azul a tomarnos nota pedimos el plato caliente del día pero nos dice que no porque es día festivo ( No lo era pero como somos de Málaga pensamos quizás era fiesta allí ) así que lo cambio por un Salmorejo y mi mujer pide unos pimientos rellenos de rabo de toro a lo que el señor nos dice que no puede ser que hay que pedir más cosas ( Es la primera vez que en un restaurante te dicen el hambre que debes tener) así que pedimos también croquetas y nos dice alzando la voz y en tono despectivo que no se puede ocupar una mesa en terraza en plena feria ( después buscamos y la feria ya había pasado ) y pedir tan poco que para eso nos ponía dentro y sin esperar respuesta ordenó ( el tono era de orden y no de petición) a un trabajador nos llevará dentro . No me fui ni pedí una hoja de reclamaciones porque no quería estropear el dia de visita a Salamanca. Nos fuimos dentro y al servirnos el pan le dijimos que solo para uno ya que el otro no puede tomar gluten. Vino el salmorejo y las croquetas ( que las habíamos pedido obligados ya que nos puso dentro las tenía que haber anulado) así que empecé a comer y 35min después de haber terminado el plato de mi pareja aun no había llegado ( Tantas leyes y no almuerzan los comensales de una mesa juntos sino por tiempos ) así que pedimos la cuenta y mi pareja se fue sin comer , menos mal que no llevaba mucha hambre. Eso sí , en la cuenta venía pan para dos pero se dijo y se rectificó. Nos fuimos pensando quizás en Salamanca era normal tratar mal al cliente pero el los tres días que estuvimos ( la experiencia fue nada más llegar) comimos en varios sitios cercanos buen jamón de Guijuelo, arroz de ibéricos, pulpo con papas meneas etc y en todos nos trataron con mucha profesionalidad y amabilidad las veces que pedimos más y las que pedimos menos. Si tienen esa forma de trabajar en vez de preguntar dentro o fuera mejor pregunten cuanto van a gastar y así ya veis donde los sentáis y os ahorráis el cambio de mesa , las mentiras y la soberbia.
