I came here because the concierge at the Hotel recommended it. My daughter was apprehensive at first. We had been walking for a few hours and were getting hungry and not knowing the city we decided to give it a try. To say we were pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. The staff was amazing. Very friendly, knowledgeable, welcoming and accommodating. They were extremely attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. It’s probably the nicest most delicious meal we’ve had on our trip. There was not one thing we had that was mediocre. The bread to start was really nice. The olive oil was good, the patatas bravas or spicy potatoes, were really good. We’ve had these in a few different places and different countries and these were top notch. Make sure to mix in the spicy on the bottom. The croquettes were really nice and beautiful done. Crispy on the outside and the cheese was melt in your mouth. My steak was absolutely delicious and perfectly done. My daughter by this point could not finish her salad which she absolutely loved. She told me this was the best goat cheese she’s ever had. The dessert was delicious. The restaurant was really nicely done inside. The music was perfect and so was the volume. We sat upstairs and had a table by the window which made for a spectacular view. I would absolutely recommend this place at least once if you’re in Salamanca. If you’re on a budget do yourself a favour and splurge. Life...
Read moreHonestly, I wanted to give this place a good review but I just had a bad experience. I had really good expectations because the menu is very fresh and modern (kudos to them!) and my tour guide recommended the place. Nevertheless, they left me waiting for a long time to get a table (which again is understandable, restaurants get busy and it wouldn't have been a big deal if that was it), the thing is they ignored me as the customer the whole time and seemed overall annoyed by my presence. After getting the table, the waitress was really kind, took my order promptly and gave a couple of suggestions. I ended up going for the beef tenderloin and some wine. She was great but after getting my food, the trouble once again started. This restaurant has medium go high range prices and while I understand that steak is an expensive item, the sides were just too small and definitely not on par with the price, service was so busy that I got a cold steak and it was overall too salty and undercooked, wine was great though. After I finished my cold and undercooked steak nobody came to take the plate or give me the check, the waitress had just vanished! I decided to wait a bit to avoid pressuring the staff but I at this point I was done and wanted to leave, I waited for 15 minutes and was ignored the whole time. Finally, I had to stand up, approach another waiter and pay. Definitely would...
Read moreWe came to DOZE after a day of sightseeing and exploration. We chose it because it was there and it looked like we could get a table. I confess to having some doubts. It is in a high tourist traffic area and there seemed to be some 'fusion' stuff creeping onto the menu. It turned out to be one of the best experiences of our two week road trip. The staff are friendly, efficient, and helpful. The food was unexpectedly fantastic and full of surprise. Across much of Spain, Russian Salad is a common, basically simple dish with many variations and each kitchen tries to put its own mark on it. I have found it a good indication of how much the chef cares about things. DOZE is worth visiting just for the Russian salad. I don't know how they do it and the staff weren't telling. It is as good as the presentation is surprising. And I was surprised! The other dishes were also very good but I was too distracted trying to figure out the crispy coating on the salad to take pictures. The oxtail meatballs were really good too though. I could eat more of...
