The restaurant location is just perfect. At the corner of the squere. We came at 9:00 just before darkening. The plaza come to full of live, and the light turned on like magic. The service was quick, and the tables are very clean. The menu is digital in spanish and english via a QR code. We ate two dishes: Esparragos blancos extra con dos salsas: Cold white asparagus with 2 sauces (mayonese and chopped green-red pepper). It was nice, not the best asparagus I ate, but I think a lot depends on the vegetable and not on the cooking method. Huevos rotos con jamon iberico y patatas fritas tradicionales: Fried eggs (sunny side up) with raw Iberian hams and freshly made traditional fried potatoes. It was very delicious, we would suggest it. :)

We waited about ten minutes for a waiter to come and give us a menu. The food was overpriced and very bad. The bread was basically cardboard (they brought us two without asking and then charged us for three, and when we pointed it out the waiter noted we were correct and proceeded to not deduct the charge). The smoked salmon sandwich was slathered in mayonnaise to a sickening degree. The tuna salad was just canned tuna, iceberg lettuce, and canned olives (one of which was spoiled)--worse than a Sodebo boxed salad you buy at a supermarket. The paella was by far the worst I have ever had--the clams were spoiled, the asparagus were fermented, there were more shrimp heads than bodies, and the chicken was all bone no meat. I hope we don't get food poisoning. This place is more than due for a health and safety inspection. The good: Historic location. The beer is the same you would buy anywhere.

The menu del día was so worth it, one of the best I’ve had in Spain. 1st plate was Paella mixta with chicken and shrimps, hard boiled egg and it was flavourful. The serving was very generous. The second plate was cochifrito, or cochinillo fried/ how can anything be better than this? Thin crispy skin, meat so tender and full of flavour. The most delicious cochinillo I’ve had, the flavour permeated throughout the meat. It went with fried potatoes, and a simple salad that went perfectly with the meat. Dessert was a choice of natilla, fruits, lemon mousse and a flat apple tart. Wine and bread were included in the very reasonable price of 19.50 euro.

Absolutely the best restaurant in the square!!! I don't know how many times l've been in Salamanca, but every time Cervantes is a MUST (both restaurant and tapas bar) Restaurant on the first floor (outside): good view of the square, good food, reasonable price. The plate of cold cuts is the best in the square! You may find a cheaper plate of cold cuts in the same square, but the quality will be - supermarket level for the tourist price. Tapas bar (second floor): Tinto de Verano is not the best, but the tapas are very tasty!!! The only bad thing is that you won't be able to eat them all.

No volvería.

We loved this restaurant. The food was excellent! We had the calamari, the goat cheese, iberico ham, and the grilled vegetables plate. All was absolutely delicious but the grilled vegetables was super tasty. Their wine was exceptional as well. Customer service was good and the restaurant with their antiques decors felt like they have been around since the Conquistador days. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
