Restaurant Amapola: A Meat Lover's Haven in Cala Millor
Nestled near Carrer Arenal in Cala Millor, Restaurant Amapola stands out as a culinary gem, expertly blending rustic charm with modern ambiance. This establishment has carved out a reputation as the go-to spot for meat enthusiasts, earning an impressive 9 out of 10 in overall impression.
Upon entering, the open grill area immediately catches the eye - a true highlight that offers guests a captivating view of the art of meat preparation. The combination of rustic elements and contemporary decor creates an inviting atmosphere. However, it's worth noting that in winter, the indoor grill can make the restaurant quite smoky. The ceiling fans put up a valiant effort against the smoke, albeit not always successfully.
Amapola's pièce de résistance is undoubtedly its grilled meat, widely regarded as the best in all of Cala Millor. A standout feature: guests have the option to have a small grill brought to their table to cook their own extra-aged steak - an interactive experience for those who enjoy a hands-on approach to their meal.
Prices fall into the upper range, with main courses between 25 and 40 euros. Given the quality of the meat, this seems quite reasonable. A minor drawback is the side dishes, which leave something to be desired in terms of quantity and variety. An upgrade here would be welcome to match the high standard of the meat offerings.
The service staff is consistently friendly and attentive. The extensive wine list offers an impressive selection of good quality wines that perfectly complement the meat dishes.
Those dining outside of peak season have a good chance of getting a table spontaneously. However, during high season and especially for larger groups of four or more, a reservation is advisable. While there is a terrace, it's situated on the sidewalk and isn't particularly inviting, which can be a downside on balmy summer evenings.
While the meat is undoubtedly the star of the menu, other dishes are also quite solid - if not earth-shattering. For meat lovers, Amapola is definitely worth a visit.
Verdict: Restaurant Amapola impresses with its outstanding meat offerings and the unique opportunity to grill your own steak. The combination of rustic charm and modern flair creates a pleasant atmosphere. Despite minor weaknesses in the side dishes and the air quality in winter, it's a top destination for anyone looking to enjoy high-quality meat in Cala Millor. With a bit of fine-tuning, Amapola could easily move from "very good" to "outstanding". As it stands, with a solid 9 out of 10 rating, it's clear that Amapola is doing many things right, offering a memorable dining experience that keeps patrons coming...
Read moreOrdered beef sirloin steak entrecote, glass of red wine and Ceasar salad here. Result: steak is impossible to chew, salad is not tasty at all (it is hard to spoil the chicken, but they managed somehow...). No discount, no even apologies from the waiter.
UPDATE AFTER OWNER'S FEEDBACK Hello. I've read your bizarre and rude comment with great interest and decided to answer to you. No, I came not from world of circus, I came from Sweden together with my wife, on vacation. I decided that your restaurant would be the good place to have a dinner in, but I was wrong. I have the right to share my opinion here so other people can see that, whether you like it or not. And everything I said is true. I've been in many restaurants during my life and I know how good steak should taste like, believe me. Unfortunately I was so pissed off at that time with waiter's behavior, that I did not make any photo as a proof to attach, but just paid and we left the place immediately. I can admit that I really should have returned your "beautiful" steak right from the beginning (or better not visit your place at all). I made several cuts and tried several pieces, but half of it was impossible to eat. Second half was OK and I ate it because I was really hungry. My wife who ordered Ceasar salad said that chicken is very dry and not tasty at all, moreover salad is seasoned with some very sour sauce, that makes it even worse. We honestly said to waiter that the best part of the dinner was red wine. Just like you he blamed us instead and said that we should have changed the dishes immediately... Is it your policy to blame guests for your own faults? Interesting also to what should we change it? May be I would have more luck with another piece of meat, I don't know. What change should be for the salad - another similar salad? Guests don't have to play Russian roulette with your dishes, they coming for good atmosphere and to get properly made food for their money. To conclude: smart restaurants owners are thankful for guests opinions, even negative, because it shows what can be improved. Other blame their guests instead and call them liars. Wishing you good luck with...
Read moreWe visited Amapola purely because the reviews are amazing. And I have to say the chicken wings starter were the best I think we’ve tasted. Sadly it went downhill got there, my main of chicken breast was a great size of meat thick on one side and thin on the other, because of this only the thin side was cooked throughout the meaty side was unfortunately served still fresh from the fridge raw in the middle which is why I’m only giving 2 stars. I did notify the waiter and he apologised and took my dish away to cook it for a bit longer on the grill, he brought it back cooked but of my own choice I couldn’t then eat it, I’m careful with chicken at home and just couldn’t stomach trying it after that as didn’t want to risk an upset stomach whilst on my holiday. I do think for a restaurant of this standard a fresh fully cooked piece of chicken would of been a better alternative and fresh cutlery considering I’d sliced into the raw meat with the original set. We swiftly asked for the bill and there was no further apology or mention of it, we still got charged full price even though clearly I’d not eaten mine and just moved it around the plate. Looking back I should of spoken up and said I don’t want my meal back after that now, it’s a learning curve. I think this is a very popular and busy restaurant which is why it most likely happened but it does look to be a lovely restaurant but please make sure your chef is checking the chicken maybe with a digital thermometer before letting it leave...
