Marfil — Restaurant in Santanyí

We have had a wonderful time in Cala Do’r and eaten at several different types of restaurants.

We walked up from the beautiful Cala Gran beach in the evening and just fancied a bite to eat, so we stopped at Marfil. The first waiter that showed us to our seats was helpful and polite. He took our wine order (reasonably priced mixture of Majorcan grapes and nice to drink).

When it came to ordering the food my gf asked specifically if the beef stroganoff was tender beef as in a stew or a cut of beef like a steak. The waiter said it was tender. I asked for his recommendation between the Majorcan cod or the sea bass. He suggested the Majorcan cod.

Every meal we have had in Cala Do’r or Palma has been great, but this meal at Marfil certainly was not….I never complain and I always finish my food but I just could not enjoy this meal. My Majorcan cod was a small piece of fish in a very bland form of stew. Some of the veg was cold, some of the sauce was cold. The cod was warm? The veg was way too soft and I left half of the meal. The stroganoff that my gf had was poor. Over cooked portion of steak that had been cut up and something similar to Cambells condensed soup poured over it to make a “sauce”. The chips were the worst she’d tasted and she loved chips. She also left most of the dish.

It takes a lot for me to complain, I understand that not everything a chef makes is spot on. I went to pay. The manager asked how the food was and I told him that the food wasn’t great. I explained politely what was wrong with each dish. I said it wasn’t good enough but I offered to pay. It’s at this point that I decided to leave a review. Had the manager offered to reduce the bill or given some kind of compensation I would have chalked it up to a bad dish, because that can happen. But he let me pay full price for the food. I ordered it and I paid for it but it was rubbish. I will never go back to Marfil and I advise you not to either! There are plenty of nice places to eat in Cala Do’r, don’t bother with this one.

Try Il Pizzerttero if you want good value tasty pizzas. Old West at the marina if you fancy steak or fajitas. The tomahawk was immense! Bar Different for an interesting place to eat La Bodega for Tapas Bocana for tapas and drinks by the marina Aquarius at the marina.

This was my first stop for a beer, and upon reviewing the menu, I decided to dine here as well. I ordered a pint of Cruz Campo and a Hawaiian pizza. I also inquired if there was anything that could be added to make my pizza a bit spicy. The beer arrived promptly and was refreshingly cold, precisely what I desired. The pizza arrived subsequently. It had a delightful thin base, which I greatly prefer, and they had been exceptionally generous with the toppings. Additionally, to enhance the spiciness, I was provided with a bottle of Tabasco sauce and a bottle of chili-infused olive oil. I opted for the olive oil, and it worked wonders. The pizza was delectable. Some of the cheese on the edges had browned sufficiently to make the crusts delightfully crispy. It took me another two pints of beer to finish my meal, and the waiter was attentively present throughout. It was a genuinely enjoyable experience, and I intend to visit again during my stay. Superb value for money.

The accompaniments and garnishes may be very standard across dishes but the meat and fish etc. are always cooked very well. The suckling pig is delicious, as is the lamb and grilled fish is always good here and not overcooked as it can be elsewhere!

I dined here alone one evening as my daughter had hurt her foot and the waiter with the glasses (apologies, we have been here a few years but I don't know your name) was very friendly, let me choose my table and provided a lovely friendly, chatty but unobtrusive service so I did not feel awkward at all, so would recommend for solo travellers. I also got talking to the people at the neighbouring table and had a lovely evening.

The house wine is good, the cheesecake is delicious and overall I'm really not sure how anywhere else could do better for the money you pay.
