Ordered drinks and when placed on table they asked for our food order which we gave, then as a member of my group when to drink I stopped them as I had seen something black in it. Upon inspection it looked like a maggot, we called the waiter over who said it was a mosquito, she took the drink and gave a new one. We then decided that we would not eat there do to the place being unhygienic. We went to a staff member and explained that we would not eat the food due to the bug in drink, she then said oh it’s bc u have waited for more than 15mins. We said no it’s due to the bugs, in which she walked away from as, we then called out to her and said we are not paying for bugs in our drinks, in which she said again said u have only waited 15mins. She left us in which we left as partly due to autism in my two friends who thought she had left the conversation and us, they walked away. The male staff chased after us and started screaming in my face and spitting. We then got a translator up to communicate with him about the issue, in which he told us he was calling police, when we told him about bugs he said we still had to pay for everything. He than stole my sister phone who was trying to translate the issue and we tried to grab back, which cause me to scrape my toes against the floor. Apparently the law in Spain is to pay for all the food (which we hadn’t even received at this time) and then put a complaint in. Staff were very rude and could speak perfect English until a complaint arose, only after police arrived did they us we could compliant. Had to pay otherwise we would be arrested, but the male member of staff received no punishment for assaulting and stealing a phone, bc apparently if u don’t pay the bill the staff can do whatever they want to u. Place is unhygienic, staff is rude, and prices are ridiculous if ur gonna serve with a side of bugs. Staff justified the bug by saying it was a mosquito, but this is a serious health hazard none the less, tourist shouldn’t be served bugs let alone a...

Read moreTOURIST TAX: IS IT A SCAM? This place snuck in an extra tourist charge claiming it’s standard. It’s the first time in 9 years that I have had a charge like this slapped on me. I’ve previously been told it’s not required for Tenerife. I also have my receipt from the other Alfonso’s location in town where I ate a few days ago and there is no such charge on the receipt. The tall bald waiter was pushy and insisted it’s a thing so we paid it.
According to all online sources we found there is no such official charge for Tenerife. Here is a direct quote from November 2023. “Tourists traveling to the Canary Islands often hear about the need to pay a tourist tax. However, there are no such fees on Tenerife, unlike on Spain’s other island, the Balearic Islands.”
Needless to say, we are never going back to this location again. We feel like we...
