Staying in the hotel the restaurant is part of meant we stumbled across this culinary treasure on our first night and had a wonderful meal. We were not quite with it enough to fully appreciate it but knew it was good. We decided to ‘treat’ ourselves to the seven-course tasting menu with the matching wines (60 Euro plus 14 Euro for the wines each plus cocktails at about 10 Euro each).
The evening started in the immaculate and plush cocktail bar, their attention to detail and innovation in ‘mixology’ will bemuse some, it excited us. The picture show their special variants of a long island ice tea and nigroni, I won’t say anymore so not to spoil the surprise. I will say they were strong and set us up well to move into the dining room.
The greeting was warm and relaxed, and our table provided a perched view of Puerto del Carmen at night. The photos have the menu and what I think we took picture of matched to it. The meal is full of surprises in that in addition ere appetizers at the start and petit fours at the end, so nine course we think; after consuming the five paired wines (a fizzy, two whites, a red and a rather lovely but not quite a pudding wine to round it all off) the end of the meal is a little hazy. We think we had another cocktail at the bar before we left!
The photos and menu speak for themselves, overall the presentation was perfect, the flavours somewhat challenging when read on the menu but excellent when eaten, and the portions were so well judged. We were replete at the end but not stuffed. If you like a big meal, you’ll need to order some stodge on the side or more bread!
I can’t recommend the cocktail bar or restaurant highly enough, this is a special culinary experience. If you found this review helpful,...
Read moreThe food is poor. We had the tasting menu, and the quality of the food and flavours were just terrible. 3 dishes in we paid up for the half we'd had and left!
First dish: a dry cracker with mushrooms on top. Looked nice. Tasted just average
Second dish: mango overload! 1 sq inch of tuna (which was nice) and a spoon full of risotto but then swimming in cold mango sauce. Everything tasted of mango, so what's the point? Mango was also slightly sour.
Third dish: black squid ink rice with two small frozen prawns and some chewy squid. The squid ink will dye your mouth black which is fine, except from the flavours just not being worth it.
I'd say in total, the ingredients for everything we had was less than €10 cost. Really really poor quality food.
But his isn't about the food, it's about your Instagram. If you want nice pictures for your Instagram it'll look good, but if you want good food, save your money and don't waste...
Read moreKentia Gourmet Club – Shockingly Unprofessional
I booked four tasting menus well in advance – two regular, one vegetarian, and one vegan – expecting a refined, gourmet experience. Instead, we were bluntly told on arrival that a vegan tasting menu was “too complicated” and that the only option was to order a few plain salads à la carte.
This is absolutely unacceptable for any restaurant, let alone one calling itself a gourmet club. If you cannot provide a vegan tasting menu, that must be stated clearly at the time of booking, not after guests have planned and looked forward to a special evening.
The lack of preparation, transparency, and basic respect for guests’ requests was shocking and deeply disappointing. What was meant to be a memorable dining experience became a night of frustration and embarrassment. Kentia Gourmet Club failed on every level of hospitality and professionalism. I truly don’t...
