4 Latas Tarragona — Restaurant in Tarragona

We visited 4 Latas on a pleasant Wednesday evening for a light meal and some beers. Having recently dined at the same chain in Barcelona, we had certain expectations for both quality and value. Despite having made a reservation through The Fork, the staff seemed disinterested in this detail and casually directed us to sit wherever we pleased.

When we requested menus, it took three attempts before we finally received them – not the most promising start to our dining experience.

The Food We ordered pan con tomate, ribs, and calamares. The ribs were well-prepared and enjoyable, standing out as the highlight of our meal. However, the calamares were disappointingly chewy – resembling chewing gum more than fresh seafood – and lacked the essential fresh lemon that would have elevated the dish. As for the pan con tomate, it appeared to have been hastily pulled from the kitchen without much care or attention.

What particularly disappointed us was the portion sizes – having just visited the Barcelona location of the same chain, we were surprised to find that the portions here were roughly half the size for the same price. This inconsistency across locations raises questions about value and standardization.

Service Issues The service proved problematic throughout our visit, with staff appearing disorganized and lacking a fundamental sense of service. We found ourselves having to actively ask again and again for our drinks from the bar, while paradoxically, the food arrived faster than our beverages – an unusual sequence that disrupted the flow of our meal. The overall lack of coordination and attention to customer needs was evident throughout the evening.

The Positives The Alhambra beer was pleasantly cold and refreshing. The restaurant's prime location offers excellent front-row seating, perfect for people-watching during the evening's promenade.

Final Verdict If you're considering 4 Latas, visit for the location and atmosphere rather than the service or food quality. The spot excels at providing a great vantage point for enjoying the evening scene, but falls short on culinary execution and attentive service. The atmosphere and location were inviting as it’s in a plaza where there’s life and people. However that’s really the only good thing I have to say about our experience in this restaurant.

The waitress was so incredibly rude and impatient with us. She was on her phone constantly and it seemed as though doing her job was inconveniencing her. When we were paying, my card didn’t seem to be working, she literally grunted at me and sighed, annoyed she had to restart the transaction. It was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced.

We ordered the ribs which came very quickly but we’re incredibly fatty. The nachos were sitting on the pass for ages while waiters were standing around doing nothing. We ended up having to ask for them to be given to us.

Fa més de dues setmanes, vaig reservar una taula per a 8 persones per ahir dia 22. Vaig decidir reservar aquí, ja que a altres restaurants no ens podien encabir, ja que és una data assenyalada a Tarragona. No era la nostra primera opció, ja que sabíem que just davant del restaurant aquella nit hi hauria concert i sabíem que seria un dia complicat. Reserva acceptada. Per assegurar-me, a falta d'una setmana de la data del sopar, decideixo anar a preguntar si tot es manté, sabent que seria un dia amb molt de moviment a causa de les festes de Santa Tecla. Em diuen que sí que tenen la reserva confirmada i que de fet en tenien també alguna més. Genial! Un dia abans del sopar, rebo un e-mail i un SMS demanant que confirmi la reserva. Confirmo que aniríem. Genial! Dia 22( dia del sopar) 18:09 de la tarda. Tenien taula a les 22:00 h. Rebo un correu on se m'indica que la reserva ha estat cancel·lada. Res més. Decideixo trucar per saber que ha passat, no l'agafen,..de nou insisteixo, l'agafen. M'atenen i demano explicacions. Em diuen que han decidit cancel·lar i no m'expliquen el motiu. Lògicament, no em convenç la resposta i començo a pensar que veuen que tindran molt d'enrenou amb el concert i la festa a la plaça ...i no interessa. Els hi manifesto obertament el que penso i el meu malestar. Després d'insistir en el fet que m'expliquin el motiu de la cancel·lació, em diuen , amb un to dubtós, poc convincent, i fins i tot "vacilón", que han tingut un problema a la sala... Lamento moltíssim aquest tracte, repeteixo. Ens cancel·len una reserva feta amb molta antelació, confirmada presencialment i teiematicament (2 vegades)...i ens cancel·len la reserva quan falten 4 hores per sopar amb un simple correu sense cap mena d'explicació. Fred.. Molt fred.. Crec que és un lloc molt correcte i que sempre que he anat he estat molt a gust, plats correctes, tracte agradable i entorn immillorable. Em decepciona molt que ens hagin tractat així. No escric mai res, ni per bé ni per malament... però el disgust va ser tan gran per part de tot el grup, que em veig obligat a escriure i descriure el meu/nostre...
