Finally, ramen in Tarragona! Alas, it was much worse than I imagined. Since it is the only place for "ramen" in the city, I suppose you could say it's the best 🤷♀️ The best thing about the place is that it is decorated with a lot of manga decor and actually has a vehicle in the interior to welcome you. There are some tables in what seemed to be like "subway cars", I've never been to other restaurants of this franchise so I can't say if it's standard.
I went one evening for dinner and had the tonkotsu ramen (I order this every time I try a new ramen place, as a benchmark) and my partner the spicy vegan ramen. They have two portion sizes and we did not specify, we were not asked which we preferred and we were charged and probably served the larger portion.
In my 30+ years of experience in tasting Asian food (including ramen), this is very likely the least flavorful noodle dish I've eaten.. in my life! :( I'm truly in awe this chain has managed to this level of expansion. In hindsight, suspicious-looking "pad thai" and baos with grill marks were on the same menu as ramen -- it should have been ample warning to stay far away!
The ramen was overcooked, the broth and chashu had no taste, and it altogether a negative dish I will not have again, even if it were free. The egg was of the correct consistency but not marinated enough. The vegan ramen was not as bad, 1/5 stars, although heura is not my thing, at least it had mushrooms.
The only thing that was forgivable with my meal was the honey lemon drink (the warm version still came with a straw, which is unforgivable in Asia). It tasted correctly -- like honey and lemon and reminded me of good old karaoke days.
Wish I had better things to say! Would have loved for semi-decent ramen in...
Read moreIf you know Japanese food, you’re most likely not going to love it here :( We visited in July after the fireworks contest as we didn’t even noticed place like that opened. Full of hopes (the decor is quite awesome) and also a very good service (spoke English) we went for late night dinner. The starters were very good (gyoza and kimchi) however, it was the only good food we received. Out of 6 entries (6 people) not a single one was worth mentioning. I had a katsudon and it wasn’t good at all. Rice was undercooked (almost seemed like instant), very little sauce, the egg way over cooked and the meat very hard (not just the meat but also the bread crumbs). So, nice decor, good service, not so...
Read moreAuthentic ramen! I came from Asia, so I eat a lot of ramen. This is one of the best ramen I've tried so far, and my husband likes it too. We ordered spicy ramen level 2 and 3, and it's spicy enough for our liking. For appetizers, we had gyoza and takoyaki. The gyoza is delicious, and the takoyaki is amazing—crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside with a big chunk of octopus. It tastes exactly like it would anywhere in Japan. If you live in Tarragona and want to eat good ramen, I recommend you this place. It's the most authentic with an affordable price. We were so happy that we could finally eat good ramen again, we will come back...
