During our visit in Valencia we had the chance to visit Begin for dinner.
At first glance we were very impressed by the design of the space. It incorporates nature in a very unique way. The tables are neatly spaced allowing you to have your personal space and vary in sizes and shapes adding to the diversity of the space.
The menu was presented to us in a QR code but it was one of the first times where the interface of the website felt organic rather than confusing. While the dishes follow some mainstream recipes they have some nice twists. We tried the tacos, tuna tataki, cannelloni and the ribs and we would recommend all of them…especially the tacos!
Overall we were very pleased. The only thing that led to the rating we provided was the STAFF. While we believe it’s acceptable for new employees to make mistakes, tonight they were far too many. Additionally we got the impression that they didn’t really care about the service they were providing.
In the beginning when ordering our first beverages we asked for a bottle of water. The bottle was presented to us with only one glass while we were a group of 4 which seemed odd. Later we ordered some additional plates which never arrived. We were not informed by anyone and we were waiting for a long time. After asking they explained that the kitchen had closed . At the end when receiving the check we noticed that they had charged us an additional bottle of wine and the dishes that never arrived. Of course we informed them and the problem was resolved. There were also some minor inconveniences like the fact that the plates arriving were just left on the sides table the wine being spilled by the waitress and the appetizers not having cutlery to serve them.
Overall we were pleased by the atmosphere and the quality of the food. The price was also very low considering what was offered to us. We truly believe that the restaurant has a lot of potential… the waitresses put way...
Read moreDeceptional! Yes, it is beautiful there. The Design is really great and well made. The plates are madd of stone to stick with the scheme. I give 1000 stars to the interior designer. BUT, it seemed to me, that they overspend for the design and decreased to the lowest possible budget for service and food quality.
Restaurant was not filled at all and the personell let us wait for quite some time until given a table. (the request to sit in the other side of the venue was declined, even it was empty) we were ignored or forgotten until we could place our order. food (sweet potato) came in cold and sloppy. After telling the manager, she just replied, "thats how it is because we prepare it in the oven". We sent it back, it was just bad. we took the tuna tataki and I promise, that this tuna was openly staying in a fridge for at least a day. It was disgusting. We sent it back. the waitresses and waiters are nonresponsive. They are essentially cleaning staff, no waiter. Service is practically non-existent. while we were sending several things back no one seemed wondered or apologising; it seemed it came a little bit within their expectation.
At all we paid the drinks and left early. Its a shame! The design and furniture is really great, you could tell a story, align the menu to the atmosphere, make people feel welcomed, deliver quality to fit the environment, but instead it's delivered as cheap experience.
I recommend it only to use it for taking a coffee during the daytime, to experience the design, but don't expect too much from the...
Read moreThe owner of this place should reconsider the management style and online booking system. The restaurant had barely 10 people inside on the Saturday night with other 50 seats available (inside) We had to sit on the outside table for over an hour. Outside terrace was the only available place to book online. Tables inside and spots at the bar were 'fully booked'. A lot of people were turned away due to inside being fully booked. But it was definitely not the case. It was almost empty all the time we were sitting outside and our table was positioned just opposite the entrance. So we could clearly see how many people came, how many were told 'it's 'fully booked' and turned away... I would be fuming if I would be an owner of this place. So much lost business...
Staff was rude and unattentive. Slow to start serving, we almost got up and go. The waiter had to ask another waiters help as she could not speak English.
It almost makes you think the staff makes all those fake bookings online themselves to have an easy, non busy Saturday night. They seem to be not interested in their work at all and would rather be home.
The food made my stomach upset. Rose wine is the worst I have ever tried.
Interior of this restaurant is probably the only nice thing about it. But again, we could not enjoy it as we had to sit outside. No gas fire, nothing. 28th of December. It got unbearably cold and we asked to take deserts away.
Do...
