La Chipirona Cocina de Mar — Restaurant in Valencia

My recent visit to this restaurant left me utterly bewildered. Having read the contrasting reviews, I ventured in with a mix of optimism and caution. Unfortunately, my experience leaned heavily towards the latter.

Let's start with the service. The waiters here had a laidback attitude that made them seem as though they were more interested in leisurely strolling through a park than serving guests. Their movements were slow, almost resembling a casual saunter at the gym rather than the attentive, efficient service one expects in a restaurant. It was evident that they were not eager to cater to diners; instead, they gave off an aura as if they were expecting entirely different clientele.

Now, to be fair, the restaurant was nearly empty during my visit, which should have meant prompt and attentive service. Unfortunately, that was not the case. It took an agonizingly long time for our orders to be taken, and even longer for the dishes to arrive. In fact, we experienced a similar delay to the one described in one of the previous reviews, which is concerning given our seemingly unique presence in the restaurant.

As for the food, it was mediocre at best. It was clear that the kitchen was having its own set of issues. Moreover, they managed to forget one of our ordered dishes, adding to our disappointment.

As I perused the other reviews, I couldn't help but empathize with the sentiments expressed by previous diners. The service here seems to consistently fall short of expectations, leaving customers feeling neglected and unappreciated.

In conclusion, my visit to this restaurant was marred by the laidback attitude of the waitstaff, a mismatched atmosphere, mediocre food, and forgetfulness when it came to delivering our complete order. Despite the potential hinted at by positive reviews of the cuisine, I cannot overlook the glaring service issues. It’s difficult to describe the abhorrent experience when it came to service.

As someone that has worked in the industry, I can understand and accept when there are bad and even terrible days for the front of the house staff. However, this place has lowered the bar beyond zero when it comes to service.

In close to two hours sitting, the most we could get were 2 appetizers.

The staff seemed perplexed as to why we dared to ask if we could have a table and even offended when we ordered food.

We got more attitude from the staff than from a 14 year old teenager when asked to clean their room.

The food was alright, at least the one we could try. Bravas were actually good, croquetas were underwhelming.

All in all, knowing the service standards are different in Spain/Europe are different than in North America, this was the absolute worst experience. I’ve received better service in a McDonald’s or even a gas...

We came to Valencia for my partner’s 50th birthday. I researched long and hard for a great place for tapas and this place came with great reviews. What disappointed me was the terrace was grubby and dank and on a street corner and really was nothing special as a setting. We sat on the outskirts where we were passed by the waiters going in and out of the restaurant with orders. The food itself was very good. Expensive but worth the quality. The waiter was decent enough but didn’t really engage with us and didn’t seem at all invested in our experience. So while it ticked the box for very good tapas, the experience as a whole was very disappointing for such a special occasion. I feel the reviews and website misled me to believe the place was much nicer. It’s a great pity.
