Las Cuevas — Restaurant in Valencia

The place looks very nice and fancy, on a hidden square. But unfortunately it was the worst restaurant experience in Valencia during 1,5 years of being here. Such bad service I haven’t seen really for ages! Guys, you need to do something with system, coz it’s not okey. We came to have a solid lunch. We were waiting out soft drink for 15 mins. And after 40 mins waiting for our food and asking them to check we realized they just completely forgot about our order. I know it happens sometimes but please at least say you are sorry. But in a restaurant of your level you would be provide deserts for free. But it’s not the end of the story. More 30 mins after my friend finally received his lamb. And the lamb awfully stunk! And the taste was a disaster as well. Reminder it passed 1 hour 10 mins after placed an order. I suppose I can have my calamares soon…but more 20 mins after I understood they forgot about it. Even in between I wanted to reach out waitresses, but they were too busy around and even did not come to check our table. We asked for a bill and again waited for 15 mins so eventually my friend went inside to pay. Obviously they counted my calamares! And when I friend asked to remove it from the bill the guy just softly said “sorry”. I mean, if you treat tourists like shit and you think they come and leave and you don’t care, so please note there are so many international people are living in Valencia! Beautiful restaurant and location. Nice interior decor and architecture, and the square in front where they have outdoor dining space is a vibe, if you are looking for the dolce far niente type scenery. Service, however, was lacking. We asked for the menu and decided to stay, had a sit at a table outside and ordered sangria to drink. Then, we made our choices from the 10+ paella options, only to be told after receiving the sangria that they don’t have ANY paella. But somehow they failed to mention this when they gave the menu. We felt bad to leave after ordering a carafe of sangria (which we didn’t touch yet, but still) so we ordered a couple of tapas, planning to eat a quick bite and be on our way. This was happening at around 21:15-21:30. As I am writing this, 22:45, we received a basket of semi-stale bread halfway through our wait, and 15 minutes ago a almost cold plate of 10 oily tasteless shrimps. More than an hour wait for this. We are extremely disappointed. Did I mention that we also ordered a bottle of tap water with our sangria that never came? Yep. And when the shrimps came we also asked for the bill. Still waiting. Era uno de mis " quiero ir" del mapa ya que es un local "nuevo para mi".

No es muy antiguo. Vi que tenía buenos comentarios, que ofrece una carta bastante extensa, para poder elegir sea cual sea tu gusto, y unos precios, según Google y las fotos publicadas, asequibles. Así que quise probarlo.

Fuimos un domingo y no había mucha gente. La atención bastante buena, desde la chica que nos atendió al teléfono a los dos camareros que nos atendieron personalmente.

Tengo que decir que me sorprendieron los precios para mal porque había visto otros precios en fotos de Google más económicos y lo que vi no tenía nada que ver. Imagino que eran fotos antiguas.

Sin embargo, debo resaltar que los platos tienen un muy buen tamaño, no escatiman y eso es de agradecer. Así que el precio ya se entiende más.

Primero pedimos queso camembert frito con mermelada. Ningún secreto a desvelar. Estaba muy bueno.

Después chipirones frítos, nada de especial. Podría decir sin equivocación que no eran frescos del día, algo "normal" aquí en Valencia (una pena).

Por último un entrecot al punto. Debo decir que estaba muy bueno aunque no fuera el mejor de mi vida. Venía acompañado de patatas fritas artesanas y pimientos del padrón. Un plato grande perfecto para compartir.

Mi valoración general inicial habría sido un 6 sobre 10, aunque sigo pensando que los pillamos en un día flojo porque tienen buenas críticas.

Sin embargo, tengo que decir qué nos dieron una muy buena reacción cuando hicimos un comentario sobre un plato que no nos gustó: Inmediatamente se lo llevaron y nos lo descontaron de la cuenta. Eso, hoy en día, pocos lo hacen. Así que solo x ese gesto les subo la nota y animo a la gente a probarlo porque, repito, me da la sensación que ese día no fue su mejor día. Así que los dejo en un 7/8.

Además el local es súper bonito, ubicado en pleno casco histórico de la ciudad, de fácil acceso y con terraza en una plaza tranquila y poco concurrida, perfecto para estar tranquilos y disfrutar de un rato...
