MONG KOK CHINESE RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Colombo

The worst ever restaurant! Went for dinner with a couple of friends and decided to try out this place. We got a table outside, overlooking the road and the sea.

We received the menus after we requested for it and then gave the order to one of the waiters. He took our order and went and a little while later a Chinese lady comes by and asks us again what we would like to order. So we repeat ourselves.

There was no drinks menu available and the waiters were not versed with what was available to serve.

The only drinks that were available was Coca Cola and Sprite, which was also served in beers mugs!

After about 20 minutes we receive the first rice dish. Which was half cooked when we tried it out and had no taste at all. About ten minutes later the second rice dish followed, again no taste at all. Very bland. We complained to the staff about the rice being half cooked and they took the dish away. We tried to add some salt to the dishes but sadly the salt and pepper dispensers on the table were empty and just for show.

Another half hour passed and we did not get the meat dishes and the tofu yet. When inquired a waiter tells us that tofu is not available. Surprise! And the meat is still not ready and the rice is already cold AF.

there was no one to communicate even properly and we saw that almost all the other tables had similar issues and anyone who’s walking in had no one to service them. The kitchen staff and the waiters were arguing and fighting about the serving times and what goes where. It was an utter mess.

Will not recommend to visit this place for whatever reason! We ended up paying for the rice and the drinks and walked away as they never served...

I recently dined at the Mong Kok Chinese Restaurant located inside One Galle Face, and I have mixed feelings about my experience.

Let's start with the negatives. The first thing that struck me was the condition of the furniture. The chairs were noticeably dirty, and the menus seemed old and unkempt. Coasters were in pieces, which was not a great first impression. Additionally, the soft drink options were quite limited, offering only Coke and EGB. The overall impression was that the restaurant was not well-maintained.

However, the shining star of this establishment was undoubtedly the food. It was nothing short of fantastic. The flavors and authenticity of the Chinese cuisine were truly remarkable. The staff also deserve praise for their kindness and attentive service, which added a positive touch to the dining experience.

Being located inside One Galle Face, the restaurant had the advantage of ample parking and convenient access to restroom facilities, which was a relief.

One aspect that did leave room for improvement was the pricing. The food was relatively expensive, considering the minor issues with the ambiance and overall maintenance.

In conclusion, Mong Kok Chinese Restaurant at One Galle Face offers exceptional Chinese cuisine with a few caveats related to cleanliness and limited soft drink options. The staff and location are definite pluses, making it a convenient choice for diners. Last night, I visited this restaurant accompanied by one Chinese friend. We were looking for authentic Chinese dishes. But unfortunately, we were deeply disappointed and complained that the food items were not authentic Chinese. The waiter blatantly lied to us about the cooking style and ingredients used. The waiter told us that the owner of this restaurant was Chinese, so he assured us the quality of the food before ordering. The staff here are not knowledgeable enough about Chinese cooking style. When asking questions, he straight up started talking about Thai food. We should have considered this red flag before ordering. Furthermore, the pictures on the menu did not resemble the actual appearance of the food. We ended up not eating all the food we ordered; in fact, we left 75% of it untouched. We noticed that there were no other Chinese dinners inside the restaurant, so we had our doubts about the quality. These staff just straight up lied to us about the flow of Chinese customers into their restaurant, the ingredients they use, style of cooking and the picture resemblance.
