Crystal Jade — Restaurant in Colombo

Went to try out Crystal Jade in One Galle face mall yesterday and was very very disappointed. Got there at 12 45pm for lunch after reserving a table which was fine. Started ordering food within 5 minutes ro be told they had run out of multiple dishes on the menu No beef ! Bad start for a new restaurant and as lunch was starting. My kids were starving so I asked them how long 2 fried rice and 2 soups would take. The waiter said 15 minutes. Over 45 minutes later we were still waiting for the food. Then it came missing one fried rice. The fried rice we got for 1300rps ++ was so tiny and looked as if they had run out of food and filled the tiny bowl only 1/2 full!! Totally overpriced and bad value for money with very few prawns in it! The food was ok tasting 2,5/5 but overpriced with so many great Chinese restaurants in Colombo this is way below standard and needs to do lots of work to catch up in terms of food, customer service, value for money and ambience was like a cheap cafe. IT TOOK OVER 20MINUTES TO GET THE BILL AND I HAD TO GO UP TO THE CASHIER FINALLY TO GET IT TO FIND THE MANAGER HAD PUT MY BILL AT THE BOTTON OF THE PILE ALTHOUGH THE TABLE NEXT TO US GOT THEIR BILL PROMPTLY AND CREDIT CARD SETTLED ALTHOUGH WE ASKED HIM BEFORE THEM AND HE HIMSELF BROUGHT OUR BILLS SIMULTANEOUSLY AT THE SAME TIME. The manager was very arrogant and rude and not courteous for a new restaurant manager. It was particularly disappointing for my family as we have visited the other crystal jade restaurants in other countries such as Singapore and Hong Kong and loved the entire experience in these places. I visited this restaurant on March 9th and had an absolutely dreadful experience. I strongly advise against dining here. The food quality was poor, and the chicken was undercooked. Moreover, the prices were exorbitant.

Our ordeal began when we ordered a spinach dish listed on the menu as "Spinach with Broth." Suddenly, my son started experiencing an allergic reaction, struggling to breathe. He has a severe allergy to prawns, and we hadn't ordered any dishes containing prawns. When we inquired with the restaurant staff, they provided no explanation.

Upon inspecting each dish carefully, we discovered small prawns hidden in the spinach, a fact that was not mentioned on the menu. This lack of transparency could have proved fatal for my son had we not rushed him to the hospital immediately. I am grateful we acted swiftly; otherwise, the consequences could have been dire.

At the hospital, my son required oxygen and injections, and he was closely monitored. Thankfully, he showed signs of improvement after receiving medical attention. This incident has never occurred before, and my son's allergies have typically only resulted in minor symptoms like swollen lips.

It is appalling that the restaurant would include prawns in a vegetarian dish without disclosure, endangering the lives of customers with allergies. The doctor speculated that prawn broth might have been added to the rice, exacerbating the allergic reaction.

I implore anyone with allergies or dietary restrictions to steer clear of this establishment. Their lack of regard for customer safety and failure to disclose allergens on the menu is unacceptable. Please reconsider your visit and spread awareness to prevent others from experiencing similar...

Visiting Crystal Jade at One Galle Face with my family turned out to be a truly memorable experience. We arrived around 9.30 PM, quite close to closing time, and were pleasantly surprised that the staff welcomed us warmly without any hesitation or negative mood, even though there were only a few customers left at that moment. This thoughtful gesture alone set the tone for our evening.

From the beginning until we left, the service was outstanding. The staff member who supported us throughout was extremely pleasant, guiding us carefully through the food ordering process and ensuring we felt comfortable. Such personalized service made the dining experience even more special.

The food was exceptional, both in taste and presentation. Each dish came with unique flavors that delighted not only us but also our children, who enjoyed every bite. We tried a variety of items including grilled chicken served with distinctive dipping options, flavorful ramen noodles, and two types of rice dishes. The grilled chicken in particular stood out, offering a taste unlike anything we had experienced before.

What impressed us most was how every dish carried its own value and a rare, authentic taste – much like the restaurant’s name, reflecting the rarity of Jade Crystals.
