Detailed review is at the end and the cake reviews are One slice at a time over the next few weeks! 🫣
————- Week 04 - The Tiramisu Cheese Cake
Tried the Tiramisu Cheesecake this time from and while it was a decent dessert overall, there were a few things that stood out. The cheesecake itself was soft and smooth as always, and the coffee layer added a nice touch. However, I did find myself missing the distinct flavor of mascarpone that usually defines a good tiramisu. The coffee layer could’ve been a bit bolder to leave a stronger impression. Still enjoyable, but there’s definitely room to elevate it further.
But I have now choosen a defenite winner which was the chocolate mouse cheese cake.
————- Week 03 - The Key Lime Tart While the zest was on point, the tart unfortunately lacked that signature tangy punch you’d expect from a true key lime dessert. It leaned more toward mellow than mouth-puckering, which left me slightly underwhelmed. That said, I still enjoyed eating it—it had a decent texture and presentation—but it didn’t quite hit the sweet & tangy craving that a key lime tart is meant to satisfy. A bit more limey boldness could easily elevate this into something special.
————- Week 02 - The passion fruit cheesecake The cheesecake was creamy, smooth, and indulgent — but what set it apart was that glossy layer of passion fruit. Tart, tropical, and just the right amount of zing to cut through the richness. Each bite was like a perfect little dance between sweet and sharp, soft and crisp (thanks to a buttery biscuit base that didn’t crumble under pressure). It wasn’t too sweet, which I loved. Just fresh, vibrant, and so satisfyingly different from the usual chocolate overloads. If you’ve never tried passion fruit in a dessert — this might be the one to convert you.
————- Week 01 - The Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake. And let me tell you… wow. The mousse layer was a rich, deep dark chocolate—not overly sweet, just beautifully balanced with that slight bitterness only proper chocolate delivers. Beneath that, the cheesecake itself didn’t disappoint. You could taste the full character of the cream cheese; it wasn’t lost in sugar like most places tend to do. And then came the base—oh, the base. Crunchy yet crumbly, smooth with just the right touch of chunkiness, and that little hit of salt that makes you go “yes, this is what balance tastes like.” Honestly, this base gets a solid 10/10. The only thing that could’ve taken it higher would be using Lotus Biscoff biscuits—and in that case, I’d give it a 12/10! 😄
——————— Detailed review of my initial visit!
This is one of those long-standing names in Colombo’s food scene that many have heard of, yet not everyone has truly experienced. I’ll admit, I’ve only been here once before, but on my recent visit to their branch, I was pleasantly surprised—and quite honestly, impressed—by just how affordable their coffee and cake offerings are in today’s economy.
The first thing that strikes you is the variety. They have a tempting display of over 15 different cakes—perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth and especially ideal if you, like me, reserve your indulgence for a well-deserved cheat day. Rather than diving into every single flavor at once (as tempting as that might be), I’ve decided to update this one cake at a time, one review per cheat day.
While I haven’t sampled their full coffee or food menu just yet, they do offer an extensive range that I’ll be exploring soon. From what I’ve seen so far, everything is well-priced, which makes this a great casual café for regular visits without burning through your wallet.
The ambiance is cozy, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. It’s a great place whether you’re popping in for a quick bite or settling in with a book or laptop. And a huge bonus—plenty of parking, which is a rare gem in Colombo.
All in all, this is the kind of place that grows on you. Affordable for what your ordering, tasty, and pleasantly nostalgic. Looking forward to my next...
Read moreAfter spending hours in front of the cake display we chose New York Cheese Cake with Raspberry topping , Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake , Squidgy Chocolate Roulade and From the coffees Hot Caramel Latte , Hot Cappuccino and Iced Mocha.
When talking about cakes omg 🤤 if you’re a sweet tooth this is the idle place for you to try out amazing and various cakes. New York Cheese Cake is a soft vanilla cheese cake you can order either plain or with chocolate or fruit topping ( Blueberry , Strawberry or Raspberry) . Here I chose the Raspberry and it was really amazing and smooth. And then my friend @ ordered Squidgy Chocolate Roulade and it was , DAMN ! I love that combination . Flourless soft sponge rolled with whipped cream and soft chocolate mousse . 😍 Honestly a must try. Then @ ordered Chocolate Mousse Cake and for me it was bit extra chocolatey so i did not like that very much. All prices of above varied from LKR 450 - 600 without service charges.
When talking about the coffees all were average and nothing special to talk about . I think the coffee bit over roasted. But I bet their hot coffees are greater than iced ones .
Later I have tried the savory range.
I tried two pastas , fresh tomato sauce with chili garlic prawns ( spicy 🌶 ) [ LKR 850] and creamy pesto with smoked salmon and Parmesan [ LKR 850 ]. From freshly baked bagels 🥯 i have tried smoked salmon with cream cheese. [ LKR 600 ].
Talking about the tomato with prawns pasta I did not like it , it’s more saucy and there were only few prawns in that . I expected more to be there with that price . And when it comes to pesto with smoked salmon pasta I really loved it . Finished the whole plate . You can either order it with prawns or herb .
If someone ask me TOMATO 🍅 or PESTO ? At this time I’ll surely say PESTO 😍
When it comes to the bagel . The filling smoked salmon and cream cheese was an amazing combination . And I liked it . But when it comes to the bagel it was dry and the dough was thick. So couldn’t get the real taste.
Should say the portion sizes of pastas were really small. Merely enough for a one person.
Should say the staff was really friendly and the ambience was quite and calm . You can enjoy your coffee without disturbance at all while reading a book or having a chat with your mate. I saw they had a good collection of books .

Read moreThe Cakery has been all time favorite dessert place of mine. They’ve now introduced a breakfast menu and also a high tea experience to their customers. Tried their Passion Fruit Victoria Sandwich, Chocolate Cheesecake Tart and Gooey Chocolate Cake. The Victoria Sandwich is a British cake which was named after Queen Victoria simplicity at its best, sweet Passion Fruit on top and pillowy soft cream, which is sandwiched between two light and fluffy sponge cakes which was delicious and it was so good. Chocolate lovers here we come. The Chocolate Cheesecake Tart was honestly a love at first sight. It’s one of the most irresistible desserts that I’ve tried and to be honest I was overwhelmed by the rich flavor and appearance. Every bite a perfect explosion of excellence and incredible taste and it didn’t disappoint me. The base of the tart was made with dark chocolate biscuit layer, the middle with a layer of creamy layer of cream cheese and the top was layered with chocolate mousse where the flavors were well balanced and decadent. The cream cheese and the chocolate mousse perfectly melts in your mouth. If you want to impress yourself, then this cake is the one for you to try. This is an all time favorite of mine. The Gooey Chocolate cake was a cocoa-based cake which is deeply chocolaty and was a gooey mess. This was smothered with a cocoa buttercream frosting. The Cakery hasn’t changed in terms of service and ambience. The place is massive with plenty of seating and they've also got an outdoor seating area with cement tables and benches. Upstairs on the balcony is another seating area decked out with giant blue umbrellas. The service here was okay and nothing to complain about and would recommend anyone to try their whole...
