I recently had the chance to experience Hotel Janaki in Colombo for a few hours, and here’s a quick review of my experience:
The hotel is well-located, with convenient access to key parts of Colombo, which is a plus. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making the short stay comfortable. The lobby is clean and well-maintained, offering a pleasant first impression.
However, when it comes to the room, it felt somewhat dated and could benefit from some renovation. The furniture and decor, while functional, aren’t as modern or luxurious as one might expect. The room amenities were okay, but nothing exceptional. The air conditioning worked well, which was important considering the Colombo heat.
The restaurant options were average – nothing spectacular, but adequate for a short stay. The overall value for money seemed decent, though it may not meet the expectations of those looking for a more upscale experience.
Overall, Hotel Janaki offers a solid, no-frills stay. It’s suitable for those who need a brief and basic stopover, but if you're looking for a more luxurious experience or modern amenities, there might be better...

Positives- Very large room Decent bathroom Good food for room service Great location in Colombo( 15 min by tuk tuk to Galle Face) Swimming pool which is unusual in this price range in a city. Friendly staff who accommodated our requests for bath mats, blanket and extra pillows.
Negatives Leaking toilet when we arrived - staff obviously didn’t check. Was fixed when we advised Very smelly reception due to the smoking in the bar leaking into the reception area Very old building in need of repair Loads of old tables and chairs hanging around in the corridors. They really should consider a big clear out.
Top tips - As you walk out of the hotel turn right - 20 m down on the right is the coffee club. Great spot for coffee and cake and evening music. A minute down the road you get to the main road. Exactly opposite is a laundromat who charges per Kg instead of per item. To the left is a good pharmacy And there are a number of good restaurants Including a sushi restaurant and a highly...
Read moreWe didn't stay but went for a family time in the pool and for lunch. The pool was clean and nicely maintained. There was a baby pool and was really helpful for a family. The location was in the city, but ut was really good environment, covered well, feels so homely and privacy maintained well. My kids enjoyed well the time spend there. Lot of hotels not allow visitors to use a pool but this hotel provide it to a very reasonable price.
And the food outlet in the hotel had variety of items, from home-made delicious Xmas cookies to a nice rice meal for lunch. There were quite a good range of white rice, red rice and yellow rice. We all enjoyed it well. We were thrilled to see the great range of platter available at the hotel. But our tummies were full and couldn't try it but hope to try it in near future. The owners were really nice and helpful that made the place feeling like a home. I would love to visit again and hopefully try to stay when...
