This was our third visit to ITC Ratnadipa after two exceptional meals at Avartana and Peshawri. Yi Jing, however, was underwhelming. You awkwardly arrive in a fourth floor holding pen to visit a third floor restaurant with no one to greet you.
We figured out how to get to the restaurant and ordered the crab and corn soup. It was thick and creamy but devoid of much flavor. Then the classic Mapo tofu was swimming in a gelatinous chilli sauce seemed made from a jar of standard commercial sweet chilli—not really up to the standards of an ITC. The Gung Bau chicken also lacked flavor and was bit rubbery. The only dish worth it was the broccoli. Again a bit too much corn starch in the sauce, but the flavors were good and the broccoli perfectly cooked with just the right amount of crunch.
What infuriated us, however, was a borderline scam on our bill. The waiter asked if we would like some rice or noodles. Upon learning that they are not included we told them to bring us a bowl of simple steamed rice. On the bill this came as “Stir fried Jasmine Rice with Soy and Burnt Garlic”.—LKR 2,500 (about 3,350 with service and taxes—or almost USD $12 for a bowl of steamed rice. More than the dim sum and almost as much as our main courses.
We received no such dish, were never informed of the price and were later told this is what they charge for “steamed rice”. Judge for yourself if you think the rice we were served meets the description and warrants what we were charged. Attaching a picture of our “special” rice and the bill.
When we complained, no one apologized or offered to alter the charge. We received just a shrug and a...

Read moreVisited Yi Jing for lunch. They have an all you can eat Dim Sum menu on weekends and on public holidays. However, we opted for their à la carte menu.
Pricing wise, I would have to say it is on the higher end compared to other such establishments. The restaurant has a nice clean ambience, comfortable seating and a nice view.
We would have to say that the overall taste of the dishes was good. We have experienced better but the service was on point. The presentation of the dishes was beautiful. Unfortunately, we forgot to take pictures of all the food we ordered.
Bhathia was our main server. He was knowledgeable about the menu, was confident to suggest dishes and was very pleasant to interact with. All staff members were attentive, friendly and professional.
We will certainly go back to try out their Dim Sum menu as it looked...
