The hotel is just looking like a heritage, and it's indeed. However, if it's running for a long time and it has been served for many prestigious and famous people, then you should make enough money to maintain your hotel. This is the experience I had in the hotel,
First thing I came to check in, then the staff collected my passport and asked me to take a seat and she will come to me, after 10 mins, she came to me saying checkin is done, room is ready, there will be a person who leads us to the room. Then I waited and waited. After 20 mins, no one came, and then I went to the counter to ask how long I needed to wait? Then, immediately in 2 mins, they said room is ready, please come in this way, then finally I got my room, however, no instruction of hotel lobby, hotel restaurant, hotel areas, hotel facilities. This hotel is quite big and for the 1st time customer, they don't introduce?
Secondly, I went to walk around in the hotel, somehow, there was one staff member carrying a luggage carrier and chatting with his friend without looking straight on the hallway, almost!! Just 1 meter gonna hit me, this luggage carrier was fully occupied at least 5-7 25 inches luggage and almost 2 meter height, could you imagine if this hits a person? So I shut out loudly, hey, watch out. Then the bellhop stopped and didn't say anything just passed.
Third, the hotel breakfast was super terrible, they serve until 10:30 am, however, most of food were cold, I was there like 930 am, but food were cold, cauliflower like frozen one, rice was cold, no milk, everything was running out, come on, I paid 200 usd for each night, you served a cold food? Another thing is that they don't have coffee machine, only a waiter carried a coffee kettle and poured it into the mug while asking people if you wanted some coffee? The thing is that the coffee is like instant coffee, and they just asked you, coffee? Milk? If you say yes, they put a mug on your table and pour the coffee out, and then they ask milk? Then they just add milk based on his feeling, some put a lot, some put a little, let me tell you, this coffee is shxt, never had this kind of coffee in a hotel and this hotel is "famous"? 200 usd per night, no a simple coffee machine? How wonderful is it?
Fourth, the breakfast restaurant is just nearby a beach, and somehow, there is a construction, no any protection or anything that shall block the construction area, so they just asked you to eat food with dirty. How nice it is?
Fifth, i was driving a car which I rented and the day I arrived at hotel, someone at the door said he can park for me, it's valet parking, then after I went to pick up my key, he asked me to give him tips, beginning, i gave 200 LKR, then he said at least 500 LKR. WOW, how wonderful this hotel is? Tips are based on service and how satisfied I am, so now it's like you are offering a quotation? 500 LKR, 200 USD per night hotel service.
Sixth, I went to have breakfast, the staff said last table, then I went to the last table, someone was taken ?? Was the staff really aware of what's going on in the dining area? It seems like he is a manager there too, but he didn't know what's going on here. In addition, some tables are served with fork and knife, some are not, some are served with water, and some are not. What's the procedure in this hotel? Any SOP? so much difference in this hotel, or it up to customers' tips? 200 usd per night hotel is like this?
Seventh, 1/4/2025 terrible service in breakfast, the woman in the pic kept ignoring customer as I'm sure she saw.
Eighth, chocolate yogurt is spoiled, went sour.
Overall, don't come to this hotel. This hotel service is terrible, I have no idea where the money goes. It seems like no maintenance, no staff training, and no awareness of service. Ridiculous hotel completely. I will only recommend for everyone if you want to have a nice service matched what you pay for, then please go for the group hotel, shangri-la hotel is near by, Marriott or Hilton is not far away as well. AT LEAST, THEY PROVIDE THE SERVICES THAT MATCHED...
Read moreThe Galle Face Hotel stands as a beacon of old-world luxury and history along the picturesque shoreline of Colombo, overlooking the Laccadive Sea. Established in 1864 in the colonial style, it was renowned as the grandest hotel east of the Suez Canal during Queen Victoria's reign. Throughout my three-day stay, I had the privilege of experiencing what this exquisite establishment offers.
From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the grandeur of the hotel's colonial architecture, which exudes a traditional charm. The reception staff greeted me warmly and efficiently, ensuring a seamless check-in process. I was promptly escorted to my room, a beautiful balcony suite with a spectacular view overlooking the Indian Ocean. The room was tastefully decorated, blending modern comforts and historic colonial elegance.
The balcony room offered the perfect blend of comfort and luxury. The plush and inviting bed, adorned with high-quality linens, made for a restful night's sleep. The balcony itself was a highlight, providing a tranquil space to relax and gaze out at the endless expanse of the sea. The room was equipped with a flat-screen TV (which went completely unused!) and a spacious renovated bathroom.
One of the most delightful aspects of my stay was the breakfast selection. Although I’m not usually a breakfast eater, I eagerly anticipated the morning meal. The buffet presented an impressive array of choices, from traditional Western fare to an extensive range of Asian specialities. I seized the opportunity to sample several new dishes, such as string hoppers, sambal, and various curries. Each dish was expertly prepared and bursting with flavour, transforming breakfast into a pleasurable experience. Who would have thought that a morning meal could be this exciting? I might even contemplate becoming a breakfast person!
My culinary experiences at the Galle Face Hotel were not confined to breakfast. I also enjoyed several lunches at the Veranda Bar, a delightful indoor/outdoor dining area with a relaxed ambience. The service at the Veranda Bar was impeccable, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. Make sure to try to decadent tiramisu. I want to extend my personal thanks to Sumar, in particular, for his exceptional service. His attention to detail and friendly demeanour made each meal a pleasure. I was not surprised to learn that, prior to returning to Colombo six years ago—at his wife's insistence—Sumar served as a personal butler to a Sheikh in the Emirates. His professionalism and dedication are evident in every interaction, and he is a true asset to the hotel.
The Galle Face Hotel is beautifully located by the sea. Strolling through the grounds was a real Zen experience, with the sea breeze and waves providing a peaceful backdrop. The hotel also offers a variety of recreational activities, including a well-equipped fitness centre and a luxurious spa—neither of which I chose to visit as I was occupied with lunch. Additionally, the hotel features a small museum adorned with photographs of notable guests from over the years. These include Lord Mountbatten, Prince Philip, Princess Anne, Anton Chekhov, Empress Eugenie of France, and many others. The museum even showcases the first private car Prince Philip purchased when he was stationed here in 1940 for the very grand sum of £12.
To wrap up, my stay at the Galle Face Hotel was a delightful experience. The blend of luxurious accommodations, exceptional dining, and impeccable service created an unforgettable stay. The hotel's rich history and prime location further enhance its charm, making it a must-visit destination for travellers seeking both relaxation and adventure. Whether you're lounging by the pool, savouring a meal, or simply taking in the stunning views from your balcony, the Galle Face Hotel is sure to leave a lasting impression.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I must start packing for...
Read moreI wanted to take a moment to share my feedback regarding our wedding held at Galle Face Hotel on December 13th 2024 at Jubilee Hall. (Couple name - Shenaya & Mewan)
First and foremost, I want to acknowledge that the overall experience at the hotel was absolutely wonderful. Except the wedding coordinator, the venue, the food, and the service provided by the staff were all outstanding and exceeded our expectations. The team’s attention to detail truly made our day special, and we were thrilled with how everything came together.
However, I must share that my experience working with our coordinator (Pramoda) did not meet high standards. She was the 3rd coordinator for us. 1st was Ifrah. She was really nice and very professional. But unfortunately she left the hotel. So the hotel appointed the 2nd coordinator called Sandith. We were truly disappointed with him. He was not answering the phone calls, not replying for the messages. He was totally ignoring the client. He doesn’t even have a curtesy to return the call. Finally I had to make a complaint about the coordinator. Then our function was handed over to the 3rd coordinator who was called as Pramoda. Before the function we were fed up with the coordinators. The most disappointed part is the coordinator (Pramoda) was not at all corporative with the Wedding Planner at least. (Planner - The Eventress By Romain Liyanage)
I felt that communication and coordination on the day could have been handled more efficiently. And being in the hospitality industry why the coordinators are behaving like this? The customer service were 0 She didn’t know how to cater the customer, very poor with telephone etiquette.
There were several moments where I felt that my requests & concerns were not addressed in a timely manner, which caused unnecessary stress.
For example, to clarify some information my mother reached out to Pramoda over the phone to inquire about some details related to the hotel rooms, and she was met with an unprofessional response. Instead of the courteous and helpful tone we had expected, she was scolded to my mother, which was both surprising and upsetting, especially considering the importance of this event to our family. This caused unnecessary stress during an already busy and emotional time. Also it was really Rude.
We understand that working as a wedding coordinator can be challenging, but respectful and helpful communication is key. I believe a more patient and considerate approach would have greatly improved our experience, as the rest of the hotel staff was wonderful and accommodating. Even the security officers were very helpful and coorporative.
I believe that with more proactive communication and attention to the needs of the clients, these challenges could have been avoided.
However, I believe a more organized and client-focused approach would enhance the overall experience for the Event Planners & couples who are trusting you with their special day.
Despite these challenges, I truly appreciate the hard work of the other hotel staff, who were professional and attentive throughout the event.
Again, the wedding itself went beautifully, and we are grateful for all the hard work that went into making it a memorable day. I hope this feedback can be used to improve communication and ensure that future clients, especially those making important inquiries, feel valued and supported. I hope my feedback will be helpful as you continue to improve the services offered by...
