Ports Of Call — Restaurant in Colombo

After trying out most of the dinner buffets in Colombo, only few were remaining in our list. So me and my fellow foodies went to a weekday dinner. The hotel itself looked very welcoming and the atmosphere was very nice. The entrance to the restaurant is very unique. You have to walk between two large curved shelfs which holds various bottles in different designs. Following the ambience of the hotel, the restaurant was warm and welcoming. The food was very good, but the spread is bit limited in some aspects when you compare it other similar places. But still it was good for us. The spread was kind of unique because it mostly contained curried food.

I found the soups were good and had spicy taste which goes well with the origin of the hotel. And they have a generous collection of dinner rolls along with various types of cheese. Apart from that starters were bit limited but they seemed to be carefully chosen so most people won't disappoint. There were good options for the main course belonging to few different cuisines. If you are a vegetarian there was a whole area dedicated for you away from other food. They prepare pasta, macaroni, pizza and dosai on demand. I have tried macaroni and pizza. Macaroni with cheese was wonderful. The creamy cheesy goodness all over the cooked macaroni. Pizza was also very good. I should specially mention that the lady chef who prepared them was very helpful and pleasant.

The dessert department also carry lots of options starting from fruits, Indian sweets to Western dessert. I loved the gulab jamuns. All of them are with their own special taste. Overall We had a good experience. Only negative experience we had was the name plates for food items were not placed at the beginning of the buffet and it took sometime for every name plate to be available. Myself and my partner chose a late night visit to Ports of Call, to end a long, wet and busy day and we are so glad that we ended our night at such a wonderful restaurant/buffet.

We decided to go with the Al a carte menu and it didn't disappoint. We could have chosen anything from that menu, each option sounded exactly what we needed and all at a very reasonable price. As it was getting late we only opted for a burger and lasagna. To our surprise we were offered a complimentary cream of chicken soup and bread rolls for starters by our wonderful and attentive waiter "Oshan". He was so kind and helpful, giving us time to decide what to eat and also providing suggestions, he also made sure to not seem overbearing.

The service is exactly what you expect from a place like this. We were left really impressed and happy.

The food was lovely, really well done and well presented and the ambience was calm/relaxing. We could have stayed there for many hours, in fact when we did decide to leave we were then offered a little chocolate treat as a way of thank you for dining with them.

I can honestly see why Ports of Call gets such great reviews, I really cannot fault anything about this resturant/buffet.

We went for dinner to the POC resturant @ Taj Samudra and it was a marvelous experience. The food was so delicious and very fresh. The dessert were splendid! Not to forget, they have the tastiest magaritas and mojitos in town. Its very affordable and so worth it. The experience was full of quality and the service offered was the best. Mr. Chaminda gave us a great service. He made sure we enjoyed the evening to the fullest. He never forgot to check up on us throughout the evening. He is very friendly and offered us the maximum service. He made sure all our needs are met in an instant. Mr. Amila, the bartender was really friendly and very professional. He offered us the best service and he made sure our beverages were given to us without delay. He made the best magaritas and the best mojitos. We enjoyed his drinks very much. Overall the place is very clean and very attractive. We want to thank the whole POC team for offering us the best service. We will surely visit again....
