Nice location on the 37th floor of the ITC hotel with stunning views from the deck. However the experience we had is mixed!

We went there with a reservation for my mom’s birthday but they have cordoned off part of the restaurant for some Indian’s 60th birthday. This was not informed to us.

They got the timing of the serving of cake wrong and it was served when all guests were not at the table! So I missed it. The restaurant was not at all busy but all the attention was about setting up for someone’s birthday. In that case they should not accept reservations.

Along with the cake we ordered only two pots of tea. However we were billed for six. Maybe because there were six in our table. But this is just tea bags and Rs. 1250 per tea including taxes is not justifiable. This has never happened to us at a locally owned and managed five star in Sri Lanka. This establishments greed and aggressiveness is well demonstrated by these kinds of actions. Maybe it’s not the staff’s fault and they may well have been instructed by their Indian GM to try to get as much money from customers as possible!

We moved in for dinner. Tried the set menu. The food was good overall minus the prawn dish that was too oily and lacked taste. The desert offered was too sugary for my liking which was a twist of a cream caramel. Having an option of at least two desserts 🍨 on the set menu would have been best.

I think this hotel in general has a long way to go to fit into Sri Lankan hospitality. We are ITC culinary members but see their discomfort with us as time pass by as the service towards us has diminished and we have to argue to get the promissed privileges of that membership.

We had a truly delightful evening at The Islander restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was elegant yet welcoming, creating the perfect setting for a relaxing dinner.

What truly elevated our experience was the outstanding service. Our butler, Mr. Adithya, was exceptionally attentive and kind. He took the time to explain each dish to us in detail, which enhanced our appreciation of the meal. His professionalism, warm demeanor, and thorough knowledge of the menu made our evening all the more enjoyable.

While the overall experience was memorable, it’s worth noting that the prices are on the higher side. Based on similar fine dining experiences I’ve had elsewhere, I did feel the meal was slightly overpriced.
