Our experience at Avartana in ITC Ratnadipa was nothing short of extraordinary as we celebrated my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality, attention to detail, and personalized service made this special occasion truly unforgettable.
We chose the Bela tasting menu, and every dish was a perfect fusion of tradition and modern culinary artistry. The pork cracker was an unexpected delight—a single bite packed with an astonishing depth of flavor, crispy yet rich and umami-filled. Another standout was the asparagus and coconut stew, where the fragrant turmeric broth and delicate string hoppers perfectly complemented the asparagus, creating a dish that was both comforting and exquisitely refined.
Just when we thought the experience couldn’t get any better, the dessert stole the show. The panna cotta egg with angel hair caramel was simply breathtaking—a masterpiece of delicate textures and balanced sweetness. The smooth, silky panna cotta encased within a delicate shell was already a marvel, but the crispy angel hair caramel added a stunning contrast, making every bite a blend of indulgence and lightness. It was the perfect finale to an already exceptional meal.
Beyond the phenomenal food, what truly made the evening unforgettable was the thoughtful preparation by the Avartana team. They went above and beyond to decorate our table beautifully with roses and a special anniversary cake, adding a deeply personal touch to our celebration. A heartfelt thank you to Nadeera, whose patience, attentiveness, and genuine warmth ensured that every detail was executed flawlessly. His exceptional service made us feel truly valued and celebrated.

Read moreWe were at the Avartana restaurant in the newly opened ITC Ratnadipa hotel in Colombo a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant is only open for dinner. It has a view of the sea and the port city but as it's dark, sadly the view cannot be appreciated in full.
We had a fabulous time. The food is costly as it's a fine dining restaurant but it was worth every penny and a unique experience.
The decor was an understated elegance, with beautiful tableware. It was very pleasing to the eye.
The menu was a series of small plates menus from LKR 9,000 to LKR 13,000 The LKR 13,000 one was a seafood menu. The food was a delightful fusion between Indian and SriLankan cuisine.
The beauty of the menu is for each price range, there was a veg and a non veg option menus.
We chose the menu Anika, which was the LKR 11,000 one. All menus are accompanied by a rasam, which was very flavourful and mild.
There were a couple of meat items on the menu that I didn't eat. The servers checked with the chef and she graciously substituted 2 other items for me. During the middle of the meal we were thinking if the food was going to be enough but before the last 2 dishes, we were actually quite full!
The plating was very unique, and each dish had a different plating presentation. Each dish was very different from the other and so flavourful. Also, each dish was described by the servers and from where it originated.
The most unique dish was where there was a tiny ghee candle in the dish. This was lit and the ghee melted into the rest of the food. Even the wick was edible. It was delightful.
The service was great and the servers were very professional, courteous and friendly.
I would highly recommend this experience for...
