The thaali was just fine. We were confused as to why 1 thaali is given between 2 people and the same amount was given to single customers. When enquiring, the elderly lady bought 2 plates and said it was a sharing thaali. We asked for additional chapatis to fill up a bit more, and was declined this request.
As time went by, she said she will bring chapatis, but it'll take a long time as she needs to serve other customers. They came when I finished my food and when she brought 2 chapatis, she asked why I'm not eating and simply replied that I have finished; it took too long to come out- I was no longer hungry.
Upon seeing the chapatis completely dry, I requested if they could be buttered or spread with ghee, to which she replied "no we don't give, you shouldn't eat it, you get more fat".
Enough said.
She then left and returned, giving us dietary advice of not eating ghee and yoghurt.
Overall, not worth the fuss at all, despite the reviews of other customers, but as customers of further dietary needs, this place aligned with our requirements. If I could award this 0 stars, I would.
Pros: It meets dietary requirements of finding food with no onion, and no garlic.
Cons: Staff, Portion size, Service time, service itself- pretty...
Read moreWe discovered Nagalingam’s Bhavan while searching online for a vegetarian Indian restaurant in Kandy, and it exceeded our high expectations, thanks to the incredible hospitality of Mrs. Kumari.
At first glance, the restaurant might seem unassuming (we were the only guests when we arrived), but don’t let that fool you. Mrs. Kumari greeted us warmly, and we immediately ordered the special Thali for two persons. You can choose your spice level - medium was perfect for us.
For drinks, we opted for a fresh fruit juice and a mango lassi, both freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. Despite the menu mentioning a 30-minute preparation time, our food was served within 10-15 minutes. Everything is freshly made, and the flavors truly stood out.
The Thali for two is an excellent way to sample various dishes from the menu, offering a delightful variety of flavors. If anything, I would have loved slightly larger portion - but only because it was so good, I didn’t want it to end!
Overall, this is my top recommendation for vegetarian dining in Kandy. If you’re in town, don’t miss the chance to eat here - you...
Read moreThe food here is absolutely delicious! We got the combo plate (Tadka) and were impressed with every single item that came on it. We honestly couldn’t believe how much flavor everything had, especially given the fact they don’t use any animal products, onions or even garlic. I would write more about the food, because it really was amazing. But what I really wanna talk about is the women who is here serving the food. She is incredibly hospital and kind, and took time to answer any questions we had, and even sat down and talked with us about Sri Lanka, her hometown in India, and traveling. But the reason I feel most compelled to write this review is because as we left the restaurant, we were approached by a scam artist. He was offering to take our money and go by beer for us. The woman who owns the shop came out and warned us of his scam, and also chased off the scam artist!! She then told us that as her customers she felt compelled to protect us as if we were her son and daughter. What an...
