This is a seriously deceptive restaurant. Be especially careful with lobster and crab. The crab was thin compared to its size and was only full of water, and the lobster was cooked with a smaller lobster than the original lobster I chose. At first, I ate the lobster without knowing that I had cheated, but later I found out that the lobster I had chosen was still there. I ordered the largest lobster in the store for 25,000 LKR and took a commemorative photo, but after eating, the lobster was small and even had lobster legs that were not in the original photo.
I asked the restaurant owner why the lobster got smaller, and she said that they get small after cooking. Then I asked her why the lobster had legs that weren’t there, and she asked me why you didn’t spoke before eating. I told her that of course I trusted the restaurant to choose the lobster and order it, she got angry at me for making a big fuss about this issue. When I told her I was calling a Sri Lankan friend, she asked me to calculate the discount at 30,000 LKR, instead of original bill 34,600 LKR. Actually when I first chose the lobster, the largest lobster was 25,000 LKR and the mid size lobster was 20,000 LKR. Finally I didn’t want to be there anymore I paid 30,000 LKR and went back to hotel.
Today is the 5th day of my trip to Sri Lanka, and my image of the Sri Lankan people, which had been good so far, has deteriorated so much. If you visit Mama’s Fish Point restaurant, after ordering lobster, crab, or fish, be sure to check whether the lobster, crab, or fish you selected are cooked before eating. I still feel bad after paying 30,000LKR for dinner for a family of three. I also attached before and after photos of lobster cooking, so please take a look and judge...
Read moreI have eaten in this restaurant for countless times being in Weligama for about two months, so I am basically a Michelin star critic. I will also leave reviews for the restaurant next door
This place is great for coconut curry tuna, crab and other fish best of best compared to others!! I even took my fish here a few times to cater for a farewell party
Based on the photos, prawns are amazing. But I like their curry so much that I never ordered anything else, plus I rarely see good fat prawns on display here. Order if you see it
Whole grill fish is good, but i don't like the lemon was already infused in the fish. I'd prefer to taste the natural flavour, ask for different style
Calami cooking for some reason is not so good and the weak point of Mama, maybe they should go to Real Fishpoint to learn that cooking style. It's by far the best there
Good thing about this place is it's one of the main shop and they have decent customer base and they employ kind loving middle age woman here
Con I have had a few times that the portion was clearly smaller than what I have ordered, crab swapped, less portions on my tuna so watchout
And as always watchout for how much and what you have ordered, take a pictures to avoid scam or...

I haggled for a sea bass, knowing they overcharge tourists. After I agreed, they took the fish into their shady, enclosed kitchen—and that’s when it hit me: what’s stopping them from swapping it for a smaller, cheaper, less fresh fish? Sure enough, after checking reviews, others have had the same suspicion.
Also, if they’ve got nothing to hide, why not barbecue the fish out in the open like many other places do? Why keep it behind closed doors?
What they eventually served was not the fish I ordered—it came in some kind of soy sauce soup, and it was awful. Honestly, the food was terrible.
I didn’t trust them at all. At this point, I doubt they even care about bieng held accountable, bad reviews, their reputation is probably already beyond repair. I barely ate—just a few spoonfuls of rice. I asked them to give the rest to the street dogs, but let’s be real, they probably just recycled it to another customer.
Also worth noting: police were sitting there, and the dining area had lots of cameras (though none where you actually order the fish). Makes you wonder if the police are...
