When entering the locale at Surbrunnsgatan, around 17:40 on a Tuesday afternoon, the first issue didn’t wait for long. The restaurant has an order at the bar vibe, but they still expect you to sit down and take the orders seated. Alright, a bit unclear, but we are happy to cooperate. After sitting down, it took around 5 minutes until the waiter brought the menu, and another 10 minutes to take our orders. We took the whole vegan menu. Interesting occurrence: my wife is mushroom intolerant, so we usually order any food without mushrooms, but this seemed to be a challenge for the waiter, as they didn’t seem to be able to substitute the mushroom salad with something else vegan and not mushroom filled. Side note: they were severely understaffed. 2 waiting personnel and 1 person in the kitchen. Way too few for a place this size and not their fault for being slow and overwhelmed.
In any case, drinks came fast and they had alcohol free Tsingtao, and that’s kinda cool. But then the waiting continued, and continued. Around one hour after we first entered, the first precourse arrived. Two sad bao buns filled with Tempeh and mayonnaise and hoisin sauce. Interesting combination, but in the end rather tasteless. The tempeh was alright, but it was all not good. However, we were craving for more. After another 10 minutes, the rest of the food arrived.
An assortment of different dishes awaited us, dumplings with cabbage, deep fried wontons, Pak choi, cucumber salad, tempeh in szechuan sauce, carrot salad, rice, and…mushroom salad?
Now hold on a moment, why is there mushroom salad? In any case, we were hungry, and since I eat mushrooms, we decided to just go with it. Still, it’s a hard no-go in the restaurant industry to bring food with allergens after being informed by the guests. But in the end, the waiting time was ill-invested. Whatever we tried, none of it had any taste really. Colourful, yes, but bland. Like salt is missing, as well as some heat and proper seasoning when cooking. The dumplings were encased in a way too thick dough, and the mushroom salad tasted like chili oil only.
We were hungry, so we ate it all, but it left us displeased and empty. To fill the void in our stomaches we ended up going to Max later to have a Lyxshake.
The overall experience was very bad. But even taking away the overworked staff and waiting times, the quality of the food is really bad for the price point, as well as portion sizes too small. I mean, if your food is bad, at least give me enough of it to feel not hungry anymore. Since it’s a chain, I believe the food will be the same everywhere at all times, as the kitchen personnel will likely only follow instructions.
Avoid. Not worth the investment,...
Read moreOverall, a 2 out of 5 . The booking process was straightforward and it was relatively easy to understand. Locating the restaurant was also effortless. Love the deco and the lighting upon entering the place. We were 8 people, having booked for 6 people, but the staff was accommodating and let us sit with two extra people.
The food was very flavourful, but ordering took time as we had a hard time understanding the various tasting menus. When asked, the staff made the process even more difficult as they didn't have any clear recommendations.
However, the food was delicious and the portions were well-sized. Personally, I loved that the restaurant had Tsingtao in big-bottle size (0,6). The meal was nice, and the atmosphere was comfy. However, the huge drawback was that the staff was adding time pressure to our meal, kindly reminding us every 20min or so that we had the table only until 8 PM.
We would kindly ask the restaurant to make the menu easier to understand and serve for bigger groups, while also dealing with the fact that a group of 6 people only has 2 hours to finish the meal. Maybe this is how they make their money, creating high turnover rates of guests, but from a client perspective, it's a horrible feeling, to be thrown out, without even being able to order dessert.
Would not recommend this place for groups bigger than 4 or 5. However, for a couple, I am sure it would be a nice experience considering the tasting menus are easy to share with one person.
Considering that each person spent north of 350 SEK I find it hard to give more than 2/5. Price to quality...
Read moreTerrible. One of the worst experiences I had in a restaurant, all types considered.
From the beginning, everything was very confusing as we booked a table for 8 people but were seated at 2 different tables of 4. In any other restaurant, that would have been fine. Except here we had to share food with different tables, since we had a few vegetarians in the group, which made the whole thing awkward and unpractical.
While we were all struggling to figure out how to share the food, none from the (understaffed) waiters properly explained what every dish was, what amount we could take individually and which dish was vegetarian. It felt extremely confusing and subpar, and we had to ask for explanations ourselves at the bar.
Moreover, the entire time we were pressured by different staff members because apparently we had to free the table at 8pm. Very inappropriate considering that after arriving at 6pm, we had to wait more than 1 hour to get the main dish.
This is already deserving 1 star out of 5, but I would have skipped writing this review… if it would have been cheap, good quality and enough food. But it was 300kr per person for a menu with quite little food, mostly tasteless vegetable stews with only one bao and one dumpling.
Afterwards, the entire group went to a bar to eat a dessert and drown our previous experience in beer.
Stay away...
