This museum is a must-see in Gothenburg. It contains a slew of well-laid-out exhibits filled to the brim with artifacts. My favorite exhibit by far was the Viking exhibit. The ship, of course, was absolutely incredible to see and was also the only one you could see in Sweden. But, the other artifacts were incredible as well. The axes, beads, and coins were all beautifully displayed and were of very high quality and condition.
Even though I thought that was the best exhibit, this doesn't take away from the rest of the museum. The walk-through of Medieval Gothenburg, again filled with interesting artifacts, was informative and quite endless. There was a milieu of medieval weaponry and armor, as well as a great collection of paintings.

Read moreStunning building right in a city centre caught my attention straight away. Entered through the heavy iron door, been suggested buying a Museum Pass by a very friendly and warm hearted woman. Museum Pass turns out to be a good deal as it will encourage you to visit four major city museums for half the price as a bonus (City Museum, Gothenburg Museum of Art, The Maritime Museum and Aquarium and Museum of Design and Crafts). Interior of the building also very impressive as well as the courtyard. On the first floor you’ll find a bit of prehistoric past followed by Viking era served as a starter of your lengthy journey. Viking room I liked very much for its dimmed atmospheric lighting as well as statues, poetry and magnificent wreck of a ship in a centre. Richness of Gothenburg City history is fascinating and objects on displays as well as artefacts I found very helpful in imagining how the life was back then throughout the centuries. I felt very lucky as on many occasions I found myself surrounded by the precious objects only, strolling by myself, all in all smooth sailing through eras, which has put me in a daydreamy mode right from the start and it was the ideal mood to begin my Gothenburgian Adventure....
