The Moules Frites were great. The Bouillabaisse was perfectly respectable. A good amount of seafood. However, the liqueur was a bit too salty. Nice depth of flavour though, with a hint of anise from the pastis. The star of the show was the catch of the day (in this case, cod). Unfortunately, the staff were hit and miss. The waiter who finally acknowledged us (possibly Spanish?), seated us as if we were a nuisance. He then ignored us for about 15 minutes while he joked around with the people at another table. We apologetically got the attention of another waiter who had just taken an order from another table. He was a lot more professional. He brought us menus immediately and was very attentive throughout. He did bring us salmon instead of the cod, but fixed it immediately. My daughter was embarrassed because she had taken a bite before she realised, but he noticed and reassured her that there was no need to worry. At the end of the meal, we asked the Spanish waiter for the bill. Again, he barely acknowledged us, then went over to annoy another table. I say "annoy" because the people at the table he was fawning over were clearly feeling uncomfortable with his over-familiarity. Five minutes later, after watching him in disbelief, we asked the Swedish waiter, who was now busy clearing plates. He brought us the bill right away. I would return for the food, but unfortunately, I would walk the other way if I saw the Spanish guy...
Read moreThe food was all delicious. But the good memories from the trip to Gothenburg were ruined by the last meal.
We ordered a glass of wine, but it wasn't served until the food was served. So after the food came out, I talked to another clerk and got it, but we finished the food and the receipt showed that 2 glasses of wine were paid for. I spoke to the clerk who took my order and she repeated her words that she had definitely served the wine before the food was served. She only said she was positively certain you had another drink.
It's not difficult to pay for an extra drink, but I didn't feel good, so I kept complaining, and in the end, I refunded the price for the drink, but it was just passed on as if the clerk bought it. I think people can make mistakes. However, they didn't seem to do anything right that could be confirmed enough by checking with the serving staff. It was just the way she looked at me trying to get a free drink.
Fortunately, I was able to find a photo when I came to the hotel. The food is served and there is no wine anywhere.
And the beer that arrived first before the...
Read moreWe have a rule when traveling and that is to only eat at a restaurant once. We broke that rule with Fiskbar 17 and ate here two nights in a row. The place has a relaxed, modern feel, does not feel touristy, and the staff made us feel welcome right away.
We had the catch-of-the-day which was cooked and seasoned perfectly. And the seafood Bouillabaisse, fantastic! The next evening, we tried the shrimp sandwich—a Swedish classic—and it was outstanding. The shrimp were sweet and plentiful, piled high on toasted bread with just the right balance of creaminess and freshness. My wife and I both got the small one. Prices felt fair for the quality. It’s not a budget spot, but it doesn’t feel over the top either—you get exactly what you’re paying for: top-quality seafood prepared with care. Fiskbar 17 struck the perfect balance of great food, friendly service, and a comfortable atmosphere. If you’re in Gothenburg and love seafood, I’d say it’s...
