Poppy — Restaurant in Göteborgs Stad

A given choice for non-Scandinavian tourists who seeks a dining experience above and beyond the usual. Food was nearly a 5. Some dishes were even Michelin-class (speaking from experience). "Bang for the buck" was totally 5 gourmand-stars! Lovely flavours, very innovative and interesting. Full-on focus on Nordic/local flavours. Pricetag is only considering food, not wine (I only had sparkling water to drink). Drawback on the venue itself: not cosy at all, chairs outright uncomfortable (especially since you'll be seated for at least a couple of hours). Bathroom not...

The food was great and the service good. However, the music was too loud for our liking. It was to the point that the three of us struggled to hear each other. Also, you need to be comfortable with sharing a table with others as we were placed at the end of a long table seating two other couples.

I will not go back because of the loud music, since not hearing what the others say kinda ruins the...

Great food (very creative, great tastes and textures, the bread and butter are heavenly!) and atmosphere, excellent wine selection (including hard-to-find top-tier Burgundies, Rhône, Jura etc) , super welcoming and knowledgeable staff. A more extensive non-alcoholic beverage selection would make Poppy shine even brighter though…overall warmly...
