We wanted to celebrate our anniversary here because we had heard a lot of good about this place.
When we wanted to book a table via the website we were forced to choose from either the A la carte street food, Taste of Mexico (7 dishes) or the Brief taste of Mexico (5 dishes). We read the menu and decided to go for the 7 dishes.
When we arrived at the restaurant they asked us what we wanted to eat and we told them that we had booked the 7 dishes menu on the website. The staff informed us that they did not serve this at the moment and that there was a problem with the booking site.
Ok, that can happen, so we chose the Sharing menu, but since my wife is allergic to pork we wanted to change the pork tacos to the vegetarian tacos. But those were not available, but they had another dish which was taco with hibiscus. I find it strange that when you have only 4 dishes on the menu you run out of the one containing potatoes and onion.
We got the first dish, guacamole with tostados, which was a vary tasteless puree of avocado. No chilli, no tomatoes, no garlic, just a "hot sauce" on the side.
Then we got the tacos, which were very fatty and only tasted burned cheese. Both the beef and vegetarian tasted the same and we both didn't eat them all.
The dessert was ok and the staff which was very friendly all the time, and also gave us a small cake as a compensation that we did not get the 7 dishes menu.
Now it's 2 days later and the booking site still lets you choose all 3 alternatives, even when I showed the staff exactly...
Read moreWe had a Valentine's Day menu at Tizne, and my first impression was that it had a very luxurious feel, and I really liked the interior design. The food came out, and it was quite spicy, which I personally enjoy, but I can imagine that many might find it a bit intense. That said, it's a Mexican restaurant, so I think the spiciness is part of the experience! My overall experience with the food was that a lot of the dishes centered around various types of chili and sauces. While I appreciate that, I would have liked to see more finesse in the dishes with a wider range of components.
I’ve read that many people feel they don't leave feeling full after dining here, and I can understand why, as the focus seems to be on sauces rather than the main components of the meal. My favorite dish was the grilled lobster and the potato rose, which were excellent. The rest of the dishes, though, didn't stand out as much. The wines were good, but a bit too expensive with limited options, although I personally prefer cocktails and thought they were delicious too!
I don't want to sound too critical because I had a mixed experience. The service was generally good, though towards the end, we were forgotten about for our final dessert. However, they kindly fixed it and apologized, which was much...
Read moreWe were 5 people who took the 5 course menu and I personally also had the cocktail pairing. The food was delicious. Specially the Octopus and the tostada. Nearly every drink is made with tequila, which is understandable for a Mexican restaurant, but the taste was very much a hit and miss. The Campari one specially was not super great.
The staff were friendly however there is quite a bit of room for improvement in the service. A couple of the dishes are meant to be eaten by hand and a small mess on the table is to be expected but not a single time we were offered wet napkins to clean our hands or the table and it was only when we went to ask for it that the waiter came with a cloth.
The place wasn't super clear to find as there are no apparent signs outside with the name of the restaurant. The acoustics inside were not great, we had to shout most of the time to talk in a table of 5 and not everybody was able to hear the waiter's explanation of the food every time. There is also very little decoration around to add to the experience. It could have done with some Mexican decoration on the bare walls.
All in all I don't think the experience is worth the price at the moment but it is a very new restaurant and maybe it will improve...
