Africa Daily Market is one of my favourite restaurants in Lund. The place combines a cozy and welcoming atmosphere with delicious food covering a wide spectrum of flavours. On top of this, it doubles as a shop for clothes, affordable jewelry, and small furniture. The food on offer includes some delicious yassa chicken (a spiced and savoury chicken stew), a refreshing tomato-based veggie stew, a curiosly sweet but nonetheless tasty thick bean stew, and an sweetish spinach stew that I've come to quite enjoy. All this is served with an trio of spiced grains, including jollof rice, red pepper-flavoured bulgur, and an insanely tasty yellow rice dish whose recipe I could kill for! All of it is served buffet-style, letting you pick and choose your favourite. While perhaps unaccustomed for the foreign palate, it's nothing too alien, and most dishes will surely sit well with you whether you're from Europe, China, or the Indian subcontinent. I especially recommend the doughnut-like pancakes! In the shop, you will find clothes in a wide variety of colours, usually very, very colourful, offering a good match for skin colours on the darker side of the spectrum. There are still garments with more muted tones, especially on the red-brown spectrum, that will fit even those on the lighter side. Certainly, however, you will find nothing like it anywhere else in Lund, making it perfect for those who want some more unique additions to their wardrobe. On the furniture-side, there are a wide assortment of baskets in almost every colour on the spectrum and a wide variety of sizes, as well as colourful and patterned curtains to liven up your home. There are also plenty of small, decorative trinkets to choose from, some made from imaginatively recycled materials such as food tins, to genuinely handcrafted wood sculptures, often depicting animals (such as my favourite, elephants!). In this department, it is unrivalled by any other place in town! Bringing it all together is the warm atmosphere, partly a result of all the nice colours and delightful scents, but mainly for the incredibly friendly service. Aisha, the proprietor, is exceptionally welcoming and has genuinely casual manner about her, and it's hard not to end up in pleasant conversation that will extend your stay way beyond the time you expected to stay here. Going there feels less like shopping or eating out and more like visiting beloved family and getting served your favourite food. It's a cozy, homely atmosphere that, to date, no other place in either Lund or Malmö has managed to replicate. All in all, if you're stumped for a place to eat and want to try something different, I highly recommend you check out Africa Daily Market. You will not be disappointed!

Read moreAfrica Daily became my go-to lunch spot during my two years at Lund University. Commuting once or twice a week from Copenhagen, I decided early on to settle on a favorite place rather than spending my limited time on trial and error. With lunch and coffee costing 79 SEK, the price was unbeatable, and the taste and quality of food unmatched even by snobby Copenhagen standards. Aicha, the proprietress, shakes up the regular buffet menu with new ingredients every week or so, meaning that I never got tired of the menu, which always includes great options for vegetarians and vegans. In a university town, it’s rare that a foreign student visiting for 2 years is able to appreciate any sense of community, but Africa Daily always welcomed me like a local and I will miss it more than anything other than my...
Read moreAmazing hidden gem! Owner (Iesha?) serves you personally and with heart, very friendly conversationist! Food was phenomenal — first time having Senegalese and I loved the seamless combination of spice flavorings. Sausage was delicious, almost melt-in-your-mouth, I liked it more than the wagyu meals I had in Japan last week! Really surprised by the brød, it was flaky and almost like a sugarless dessert (reminds of Chinese street pastries) — I think texture-wise I prefer it to the ramen I had in Japan last week, which is saying a lot! 10/10, wholly rec!
It’s a buffet so you can have all you want, as supplies last! I ate all the chicken + sausage available, so Iesha had to...
